They formed in '81, broke up in '85 and reformed in 1990 without John Wetton and have released only two albums since then, the last of which came out in '94.a1aara wrote:I don't think Asia went anywhere. 80's tour
I saw Styx, Foreigner and BOC, 5 months ago. They all were just as good as when I saw them 30 years ago, musically. Maybe better. Stage shows didn't compare to the 70's when I saw them. If tickets are ~$30, spend it. You'll enjoy it.

Very agreeable... Best thing the 90s brought us was the birth and death of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana.CaptainP wrote:I'd say the 90's were much worse.NanaBabe wrote:The 80's were THE worst era in music .... EVER!

Bob Marley (didn't even LIVE in the 80's) , Peter Tosh, Yes, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Steve Goodman, John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jesse Winchester, and some fella named Jimmy Buffett
I was listening to all these folks in the 70's. Much of the rest of your list was punk, and it never turned me on, or just people I didn't care for. Disco and punk drove me to country and Southern Rock as well as some really fine singer/songwriters. Memorable to you doesn't mean good to everyone else. Granted, the 90's sucked too, and the 00's haven't looked much better. Generation Gap perhaps.
Sorry I forgot to qualify my post with "IMHO"

You listed 8 bands I couldn't ID if I heard them. Not so memorable.Tiki Torches wrote:It all depends upon what trips your trigger but there's Indigo Girls, Matthew Sweet, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Fury in the Slaughterhouse, Pearl Jam, Todd Snider, Edie Brickell, Widespread Panic, Phish, Sarah McLaughlin, the Black Crowes, Ray Wylie Hubbard, the Melvins, Radiohead, Alice in Chains, PJ Harvey, Jane's Addiction, Neil Young, the Pixies, Temple of the Dog, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Blues Traveler, Blind Melon, Screaming Trees and some fella named Jimmy Buffett, just to name a few.CaptainP wrote:How much from the 90s?
By memorable, I mean that you know the song. Doesn't mean it's good...doesn't mean you like it. But you know it.

Marley passed away on May 11th, 1981.NanaBabe wrote:Bob Marley (didn't even LIVE in the 80's)
At best only 3 of those bands could be called "punk": X, the Clash and the Replacements, all of which were much more melodic than ones like the Sex Pistols, Circle Jerks, Dead Boys, etc. from that time period.NanaBabe wrote:Much of the rest of your list was punk, and it never turned me on, or just people I didn't care for.
I've found music to like from the origins of blues in the 30s, the beginnings of rock n' roll in the 50s and several kinds of music from the 60s to the present. As evidenced by this thread our own individual mileage may vary. If I had never allowed my own taste to go off the beaten path I would have never gotten into people like Buffett, Marley, Prine, Jerry Jeff, etc. Memorable to me are artists who's work is worth revisiting and I listen to all of the artists listed (and then some) on a regular basis.

My apologies, I had '78 in my head as the date of his death ... I thought it was the same year my daughter was born. Now I wonder what event really happened that I thought I was remembering ....Tiki Torches wrote:Marley passed away on May 11th, 1981.NanaBabe wrote:Bob Marley (didn't even LIVE in the 80's)
Ahhh ...... Keith Moon. My memory doesn't always serve accurately anymore. Too many brain cells killed off

Speaking of Keith Moon, that new Who album that came out last year is quite good, particularly considering they're the only original members of the band left.
