I think it's the teeeny-bopper factor. Jordin is also 17, but she doesn't look it AT ALL, so he looks and acts like the youngest, and that has to have some appeal for the 10-14 year olds who are watching, and calling. And there a lot of them. And they vote. Obviously heavily.

If I vote, I might vote 1 or 2 times in an evening, and I don't usually bother until maybe the top 5 or so.

So fess up everybody, are you voting yet??

Wow!! I can't believe this......

I think A) It's sympathy... you can't help but feel bad for the kid! He doesn't deserved the berating he gets from Simon. He's doing the best he can... he can't help that he doesn't stand up to LaKisha, Melinda or Jordin. Poor kid would probably like to go home, but he can't! This has happened quite a few times in previous seasons... charm & cuteness get marginal talent through a few rounds they shouldn't... but eventually they go home, never to be heard from again.

And B) I'm not trying to get all racial here... but, Sanjaya's half Indian... there could be a HUGE Indian population that wants to see one of their own succeed on the show. That population may not even generally care about American Idol, but they are interested because Sanjaya's on the show... maybe!?

Poor kid... he's sweet & doesn't deserve the abuse he's getting. :(

maybe the pre-teens...but my 14 year old daughter and most of her friends find him a little creepy.....Caitlin said she doesn't like boys that are prettier than her....

There are people that will always vote for the underdog no matter what. And of course, the "evil" people that will vote for the worst. Also, Howard Stern got behind the vote for the worst this week and asked his listeners to vote for Sanjaya.

I'm voting. This week I voted for Lakisha b/c I thought she was the best. But in past weeks, I've voted for Melinda as well as Chris Sligh. I figure I have to vote in an effort to give someone else votes over Sanjaya.

I am so over this. Sanjaya needs walking papers. He's just tooo creepy for me ... and I would not buy his records ...

I'm still in love with Melinda, Lakisaha, Stephanie and Jordin ... it's a girl's world this year. [smilie=battingeyes.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

I do like Vote for the Worst, there are some clever blogs & commentaries on there.

And even when the singing is terrible, I still can't tear myself away, I love the whole package of a train-wreck that is American Idol. Trying to figure out if Paula is drunk. HOw many times is Randy gonna overuse 'whas up dog'. Simon, in general. Seacrest's dumb outfits and fantastic shortness. Bad singing. Horrible outfits & hair. All of it!

It's not all about the singing!

So, after tonight, I have to say that the first 2 "soul sisters" and Sanjaya have to be the bottom three. I was looking for the girls to sing something that would let their big voices run free, and Sanjaya doing "You Really Got me" just didn't cut it. Was really surprised to see the men have such a good showing. Also, was disappointed tonight, would have loved to see one of the 3 "top" girls do Son Of A Preacher Man. As always, just my opinion. Peace.

Hats off this week to Peter and Lulu Noone this week. They really did well coaching the singers. Once again, Melinda upheld the standard. She is starting to seperate herself not just from some, but from Lakisha too. She is by far the most talented singer up there and it shows every week! Jordin really surprised me last night. I knew she was good, but with Lakisha having an "ok" week, Jordin took a step towards the top. Her voice is amazing for her age! I think its completely hillarious that Chris jabbed Simon with the mic stand. Surely this will be the week that Sanjaya goes home packing. :o

I still think the 2 best are Likesha and Melinda......but they are like watching a lounge act.....I liked Chris Sligh.....Gina .....and Haily(well what she wore helped)..Always liked Jordon.....Now being British invasion......i think Maybe a Beatles song like back in the USSR would of been a great song...work the crowd!!!

They all are great singers at this point.....some need to show some stage presence and work the crowd!!

I agree. I think Phil is in trouble. I just have a bad feeling that Sanjaya will be around for a few more weeks.

I thought as a whole the performances were better than last week. My faves last night were Blake, Jordin, Chris Sligh and as always Lakisha and Melinda.

I kept waiting for a Beatles song, but then I figured that they probably didn't have permission to use them on the show or something. But how can you have a British invasion show sans Beatles?

I don't watch this show but I saw a picture of this Sanjaya guy in the paper the other day and just for s***s and giggles I read the article. IFrom the picture, I thought it was a girl. :o

My thoughts from last night..

Haley - Cute, fun, enjoyed it.

Chris R. - Sweet, better than last week, not overwhelming.

Stephanie - Nice, but no wow.

Blake - I liked, it was fun.

Lakisha - Soulful and awesome.

Phil - petty, but the sweaty shirt was a distraction, his voice was too up and down.

Jordin - strong, just loved her this week.

Sanjaya - and the crying girl?? Ick again. Too many "Whoa, Yeah".

Gina - Really strong.

Chris S. - I liked. Off a little, but I enjoyed.

Melinda - just beautiful.

We can only hope. His performance last night was like watching a train wreck or something. It was horrible, and I knew I shouldn't look......but for some reason, I could not turn away......

I thought the crying pre-teen during Sanjaya's song was classic. How funny. Boy, he was horrible.

But I thought Hailey looked great.
