So far, in playing around with it on the computer, I managed to make a copy where the video worked, but the sound only is coming out of the left side. I've been trying to take the files and create a new dvd using some dvd authoring software I have. Still hopeful, but no success just yet. I'll try to work with it some more tonight.

**Note, Live By The Bay did not work when I receieved. Jeff (15) was going to rip the DVD to file and re-burn. Hopefully it works for him and Live By the Bay continues.

I'm still having problems with Live By The Bay. I have e-mailed MammaPH for her address. If I manage to find a solution quickly, I'll send along a good disc. If not, I'll pass along the original. I can tell the whole Live By The Bay show is on there, but there's an error somewhere in the data that is preventing it from reading on my DVD player. I've tried every idea I've had so far with only moderate success. I'll keep my fingers crossed for some magic to happen tonight.

I didn't make any progress last night as I had hoped I would. I managed to get a copy of Live By The Bay to play, but the audio only comes out 1 side. I'll keep playing with it until I get an address for MammaPH. If I've had no luck by then, I don't want to hold up the vine more that I have to, especially if I'm not getting closer to a solution.

You know as soon as this vine wraps up Jimmy will release these on DVD.

On both of my dvds, I only had audio on one channel. My copies and the masters. I assumed that was how they were originally burned? My Live by the Bay never did work in the computer, but on my home dvd system it played it OK.

I'm just curious if we can track back to anyone who has good copies.

Is there a chance the MASTERS bad or did someone keep the Masters and pass on copies at some point?

Now that I read that, I went back and you're right, Tales From Margaritavision only has audio on one side as well.

So, here's where we stand now. I have working copies of both DVD's with audio only coming out of the left side. Tales From Margaritavision has chapters inserted every 5 minutes as most component DVD recorders do automatically, so that's good. My method of "fixing" Live By The Bay left it without any tracks. I'm still waiting to hear from the next in line, so I'll keep playing with it tonight and see if I can't learn me a way to insert some. If so, I'll do that. As soon as I get an address to send them to, I'll send the original TFM and the best possible LBTB that I have. I'll give the next in line till Friday to get back to me then I'll move on down the list.

I finally found a solution that I should have done from the start. I pulled out my VHS copy and made a whole new DVD of Live By The Bay from scratch. The audio is in stereo and the chapters are in there every 5 minutes.

I tried to make a new copy of Tales From Margaritavision, but my DVD recorder wouldn't record b/c of the copy protection, so the audio still is only on the left side on that one. If anyone knows an inexpensive way around this, please let me know.

I don't know whether or not we can trace the "lost right audio channel" back to the master copy. I went back and rechecked the copies I made (I forwarded the version I received on to the next person and kept the copy I made for myself), and sure enough, my copies of both videos have only the left audio. I didn't realize this at first because when I duped the DVD I was listening only on tinny sounding computer speakers and when I tested them in my home DVD player, my TV automatically detected that the audio was mono and it switched to its "simulated stereo" setting. I suppose if I had watched for more than a minute I would have noticed but I was only performing a quick test to insure that my DVD copy worked in my home DVD player.

I started this thread and sent out the videos, I always watched them on my TV and never paid attention to the sound. I checked my original copies and there is only sound in the left speaker. I don't know why they copied like that.
I copied them on a Panasonic stand alone recorder Mod: DMR-ES20 from a old VCR I had.

I tried a couple more times to redub Tales From Margaritavision to try to get it into stereo, but my DVD recorder wasn't having it. Live by the Bay is good to go and "Tales" is mono. Sorry for the delay. Anchors aweigh on the mailboat.
