Question in regards to the ads of the website
First and foremost, I do not want to come off as a know it all noob. Just have a question. Some of it is out of frustration for not getting all the tickets I wanted for Nissan...but here it goes...
www.buffettnews.com does not allow any selling of tickets above face value within their forum. Yet, as I type this message I am looking at ads for tickets that are well above face. I experienced this same thing at a shoe forum that is designed for rare, authentic shoes(niketalk.com). There deal was that they were having "fake jordan" retailing websites advertising on their website. We, the members complained, and they made a change. Is that what it takes for us to get rid of these ads?
any arguments, ideas, etc are appreciated

My guess is they're just google ads and amazon ads to be determined by them (or their customers) and not necessarily phjim or Buffettnews.com.
It would be nice though if they new how to spell the man's name though
And apparently you can buy that space yourself and put your own message or website link there if you want.
Then there's the legal distinction between a licensed ticket broker providing the paid "service" vs. the individual "scalper" posting and trying to sell above face value using a forum actually hosted by Buffettnews. I'm not trying to defend the ticket brokers but I won't condemn them either. The only reason they provide the service is because there is a demand and people are willing to pay them for it.

Re: Question in regards to the ads of the website
Fortunately buffettnews.com is a free website for all of us to visit, use and enjoy. The ads are a big part of that I'm sure. I have no idea (actually I have an idea since I do this for a living) what the annual maintenance cost is for the website and it is none of my business since no one is charging me and I have no $$ investment in the operation. Unless PHJIM and co. start charging us for the website and/or we become shareholders we really have no right to protest what are relatively minor and easily ignored ads.nike4o1 wrote:First and foremost, I do not want to come off as a know it all noob. I find it hard to believe that you can't modify the ads shown.....
I know for a fact that you can at www.doubleclick.com , not sure about google ads(that has seemed to be the only ticket ad for me)...I find it odd that in todays day of internet/p*** privacy that a powerhouse like google will not let you modify the ads you can show...weird......................
Google's ad review process ensures that the ads you serve are not only family-friendly, but also comply with our strict editorial guidelines. We combine sensitive language filters, your input, and a team of linguists with good hard common sense to automatically filter out ads that may be inappropriate for your content. What's more, you can block competitive ads and choose your own default ads. It's your show from start to finish.

I don't mind the google ads, I hardly notice them to be honest. And I also realize that they help off-set the costs of keeping this board running.
A while ago, I think phjim set up a paypal account for anyone who wanted to make a small doation to BN. I know a number of people where happy to send a few bucks. I forget now what the paypal address was, but it might be a good time to "reinvest" in BN.

I brought this point up yesterday : http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewto ... 57#2554857
First lets make one thing clear, you can block any ads from appearing on your website via "Google Ads". When you join the Google Ad service you can completely control what ads do and don't appear. Very simple to do.
As I mentioned in a prior post, there shouldn't any more complaints about brokers and scalpers here because their ads help pay for this site.

if you're coming to BN to check out the ads... then more power to you.
to be honest? i've never noticed them because i'm always looking for the next boise joke.
give credit to phjim, he's got a fine operation running here and so what if those ads exist. think about the alternatives....

so then why not just create an "over face value" section of the forum? and a face value forum? That way the number of members will increase, thus resulting in a better forum and more revenue for phjim!indymiller24 wrote:if you're coming to BN to check out the ads... then more power to you.

I dont think thats the point.... who cares what the ad says? Just clicking on it makes money for BN. You dont have to buy anything from the ad for google to pay.nike4o1 wrote:so then why not just create an "over face value" section of the forum? and a face value forum? If the ads are really that offensive, one can simply choose not to visit Buffettnews.
I am so sick of all the complaining about not getting enough tickets, brokers reselling them, having to pay over face value, and high ticket prices. The choices available to everyone are simple: attempt to buy the tickets from the primary source, buy them in the secondary market, or don't go to the shows.
