couple of things... if you can take birth control pills, they do help a great deal. As others have said, bearing a child often helps - it helped tremendously in my case.

Once you're done having children (if you intend to, at all) you might consider a hysterectomy where they remove your uterus and leave your ovaries in place. I had fibroids as well as endometriosis when I had a hysterectomy, and I wish I'd had surgery a year or two earlier, because it so changed my quality of life!
I'm not sure why they took me off my pill. I am supposed to get Lupron shots for 6 months. :( I'm pretty scared about that. I've been warming up to the idea of maybe having a kid in the future, so hysteretomy isn't an option for me right now, but eventually, yes, I'll probably do that. Chronic pain is NOT cool!!!
Thats what my friend was on... she said you'll go through menopause, night sweats hot flashes etc...she said she had painful periods but not chronic pain. But her doctor said that she may have become used to the pain as she had it for so long before she was diagnosed. She also did a lot of umm slef medicating apparently weed helps :) She also says check with your insurance cause Lupron is EXPENSIVE and she had to fight with them to cover it...something like $600 a month...good luck with it!

I had a mild case and had it lasered off during a laproscopy when trying to conceive.

It can definitely interfere with fertility...the endometrial cells that should be in you Uterus that are now outside can clog your tubes.
I've had several friends whose Dr. told them, "If you want children, do it now."

My mother had it and was told the longer it developed, the less likely she would get pregnant, she was able to have one more child after her diagnosis.

Personally, if you want children, I'd check into what treatments are available to remove it.

Mrs Z had two daughters, but the endometriosis returned each time. The doctor did not want to do a hysterectomy on someone who was only 35; but she was done having babies and the surgery solved the problem for her.

Oh, wow. I just noticed this thread. What timing. I'm going in for a laparascopy next week because my doc suspects that I have it... Let me know if you find any good resources or support boards!

it's treatable, but it is a nasty disease. (not the topic, the effects some of the treatments.)

Melly, If you do a search on Google for the topic. There are a few good medical sites that will tell you what it what it is, treatment options, etc.
ya i've read about it.

i'm just kind of looking for more support kind of sites..or others who may have gone through it.
Melli - go to hystersisters.com - a GREAT support site for all types of problems dealing with the female reproductive organs. There is tons of information on the site as well as a bulletin board similar to this one. It's not JUST for peeps with hysterectomies. It was a godsend for me when I went through mine.

Good luck sweetie!!!

When I had my laparoscopy, I authorized the Dr. to laser any (or as much as possible) endometriosis that they found while they were there, which they did.

I was able to get pregnant shortly thereafter. :D

I'm glad someone else mentioned hystersisters.com, it's a wealth of information on a lot of things. I found it when I had to have the surgery. Extremely helpful, if nothing else it gives you questions to ask your doctor that you might not even have thought of!

Best wishes, I know this is no fun!
