Hall of Fame Induction Tonight

Post by MDown »

Got the TIVO set! Looking forward to a great night of music...
With the exception of the Van Halen mess. I guess Velvet Revolver is only going to 2 songs (1 from DLR, and 1 from Sammy). Sammy and Michael should be attendance, I would like to see them jam.

REM... this will be great to see too...

First time ever ceremony is on live...

won't be watching here. it's a contrived selection process, and there are bands in the Hall that are one-hit wonders, there are bands not in it (despite being eligible) that have monster catalogues... and it took way too long for Seger to make it into the Hall despite his reputation and record.

I'll take a pass.

Sales aren't a part of the criteria for induction that's why you'll see performers that may have never even had a chart hit in the list of inductees.

Ahhh but the VH1 Classics lead in to this show was GREAT today. The Last Waltz, Neil Young and The Song Remains The Same. Had the tv on all afternoon instead of the stereo 8) 8) 8) 8)
Some will go and some will stay. It doesn't matter anyway ......

but please... there are artists that the whole title "Hall of Fame" would mean someone other than three music critics from Rolling Stone would have had to have heard of getting in, and famous acts.. hence the name..

They don't put the guy playing 2nd base for the Devil Rays in just because he was a good clubhouse influence, and they don't put in the 3rd string Offensive Tackle on the 1942 Bears because he innovated the way people wear padding...

They are doin some sorta intermission now with all this. Its amazing to see how many of these people on the shows have passed, and how many of them still need to go away.

Well saw Michael Anthony in the crowd--- But Patty Smith looks HORRIBLE--- She should stay away from any High Def feed.

I like the way they have it set up even if I don't agree with all of the choices. If induction were based on sales/popularity alone (rather than influence) I'd hate to think who'd be cluttering the Hall. I also don't feel that drawing a comparison between a sports Hall of Fame and a music Hall of Fame is necessarily a good one as you can be inducted into the Rock Hall while still being musicially active. Aren't most of the athletes in the sports Hall of Fames already retired or dead?

I am really suprised Michael Anthony said that many nice words about Eddie, since the fall out.

Yeah, but if ever there was a time to let the water go under the bridge....well.....this is probably it.

They can resume the feud tomorrow.....

Eddie is too doped and drunk right now to even realize he was inducted.

You have to be retired for 5 years to be on the ballot for the Baseball Hall of Fame and I think football is the same. I'm not sure if it's 5 years for hockey and basketball but you do have to be retired first.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

Thought Velvet Revolver was horrid... They sounded awful, and I even like them! Michael and Sammy looked a little tense during their song.

REM is a class act! Looked great, sounded great, and they jam!

retired.. but face it... when was the last time Patty Smith played for more than 9 people on a stage bigger than a postage stamp... a lot of the Rock Hall artists inducted are either retired, or dead as well.

Patti recently played for a rather large audience at the Tibet House Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall. Prior to that she performed at the historic closing of CBGB's. Neither of those included small audiences or small stages so I don't really see your point. To my knowledge she still plays to fairly large crowds. I know some of the Rock Hall inductees may be deceased but looking back through the list of inductees in recent years that appears to be the exception, not the rule. Like last night for instance, nearly everyone inducted is still actively performing and recording.

so as long as you play at memorable/commemorative/charitable events, you are eligible... because when was the last time Patti had an album release? and.. when was the last time one of her albums did anything? I have to say that her career was pretty much over by 1985, and she makes a great "I Love the 80's" Trivial Pursuit answer and that is about it.
