When it's their 10th birthday?
The dryer is not heating
Last month the washer. This month the dryer.
I'm thinking I had better go ahead and prepare for the dishwasher next month.
Uh-oh, my washer isn't spinning right, and I got ALL my appliances at the same time. They are only 8 years old, so a little under the 10 year magic milestone.

I believe they do. It's called planned obsolescence. If it's a gas dryer, it's an easy fix. The part that went is probably the igniter. If it's electric, I haven't a clue. I have gas. appliances Find the dryer make, model, seriel #. Then get the part #. If you're handy, you can do it yourself.

1. Right after the warranty expires
2. as soon as the credit card is paid off
3. in multiples of three.....
we just replaced a water heater and I KNOW something else is lurking in the shadows!!!
I REMEMBERED THIS THREAD.....and I know I cursed myself.....
over the weekend the fridge went out.....and then the dishwasher....both are 12 years old....so they didn't owe me anything.....but WHY at the same time.....and of course, the range is 18 years old and as long as I was dropping the fat cash.....I replaced all three......
It will be delightful to have all new appliances, but the final tally STUNG....good thing I'd already ordered tickets for Buffett in Oct and paid for airfare or I would have talked myself out of it after the major expense........ARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHH........I remember being a renter when a broken appliance was just a call to the landlord.....

oh man - I'm so soorry
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
and why is it that appliances never die when there's a good sale going on? I swear if something dies that I can't hold off on, it's always right after the best sale of the year, when everything is full price.
Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all..
After 13 years our fridge and hot water heater are still hanging on.
So far it's been: the stove, dishwasher, dryer, washing machine and the heat pump. All at the 11 and 12 year points.
The fridge is defintely going to be next in our house. It just started making a whining noise and the door seals are letting air out.
and as an example of irony, I think we've replaced a total of 5 refrigerators/freezers all together in the last ten years.
My parents still have the same olive green refrigerator they bought when they moved into their house, 35 years ago. They've never had it serviced, and it doesn't have any problems at all. No one ever believes that. (of course, now I probably jinxed them and I'll get a call from my mom saying they're going out to buy a new fridge )

Appliances definitely know when you're trying to do another home improvement project. We ripped up our kitchen floor, about to put in a new one and a week later our hot water heater died. Oh yeah, it was four days before we had a major party at our house, too.

For ONCE in my life, we did hit it right.....Lowe's was having a sale. I didn't really have time to shop, but they gave me a 30 day price match guarantee. When I got home, I checked everything on line......Lowe's beat everyone by $100-200 on each appliance.....so I'm happy about that!
Everything is being delivered today........

That's great!
and even though it sucks having to replace things like that, it is kind of cool to get brand spanking new appliances. It's like a new car smell or something. (or maybe I'm just weird like that)

now that I'm over the sticker shock, I'm very excited about my new stuff!
Esp the stove....it's 100 times nicer than my old one....with a convection oven.....something I've never even used!!
My new frozen concoction maker should be here today, too......so it's a big time in Utah today (good thing I ordered the fcm before everything else went south or I wouldn't have gotten it)!!
