JB Needs New Box Set

Since JB has quite a few, just from things I've read via the Coconut Telegraph recording session notes, unreleased tunes now dating back to BHOTM and hell there's gotta be more in the can from OTSTL on to TTWWY - and obviously more from the 1970s and 80s - I think it's time JB unearthed ALL of them and put them out. Maybe include any edit versions of songs released as radio singles so we can have the LP and single versions and perhaps some in the can live tracks leftover from YHTBT, FF and T, TH, S.

EVERYTHING. I really would like to hear Plutonium And Beer and 15 Year Old - especially 15 Year Old with clarity.

Wasn't there a post a while back about Jimmy requesting or was involved with remastering 60 songs to celebrate his 60th year on the planet (Well technically he's in his 61st year since as soon as you hit your b-day it's on to the next year. How come no one accounts for the 9 months in the womb? We'd all be slightly older I know but only by 9 months)? Nothing has come of that.

Perhaps a Buffett Anthology. First track on the first one - the unedited studio version of Margaritaville with the 'lost verse' that was cut out. Then the slightly different version of Come Monday. And so on.

I could do without the radio edits but a box full of actual rarities (which Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads was woefully short on) would be most welcome.

I could tell the Wife to get it for Me. This pirate looks at 49 soon. Man that used to seem old.

if it was live, unreleased, and rare tracks yes.if just rehashed material or new versions of old songs then no.

I wouldn't buy all of the same rehashes, but I would like the unreleased and rare stuff. Maybe the live stuff that's not on any albums. Especially the early recordings.

Because then, instead of celebrating our birthdays, we would all celebrate our conception days. And for that, we'd have to know exactly when mom and dad were getting their freak on. And how many of us want to think about that?

Although it's what got me here, I really don't want to think about my parents doing the horozontal happy dance.

I second that statement, but part of me wonders what my kids will think. [smilie=whistle.gif]

I've always wondered about that, the previous nine months. It is silly I guess.

So...no previously released or edited single tracks on a new Buffett box set.

I agree. I just like hearing edit versions of songs for some reason. It's fun to hear an artist hack up their own work. The Stones do a fantastic job of hacking their songs down for radio singles or, back in the day, to fit on the B-side of a 45.

Studio and live. It would be interesting to hear the other SOASOAS tracks from that tour that produced YHTBT since there is only ONE SOASOAS track on the entire album. I know it might seem too much but I would like to hear a 1978 fresh live version of Cheeseburger. And whatever other tracks he played from that album.

If it is just rehashed stuff like MMIM (I know it was not a box set) was, then in the era of the Ipod, make your own box set. Now, if it is rare and the live unreleased stuff, sign me up.

There's so much more you can put together yourself that would likely beat any box set.

Any and all unreleased stuido tracks and any tracks recorded for but obviously not included on any of the major 3 live albums and maybe even some tracks that were recorded on other tours for some kind of archives deal.

Almost everyone seems to agree that PTYDFYOGFH needs to be released, along with....everything else studio wise that he's sitting on.

I don't have an iPod. I really like the idea of making my own CDs. Those iPods just break after a while. Don't they?

Until RM went to Sirius most concert recordings I heard that were obtained through online feeds sounded horrible. I'm sure there's some high quality stuff in the Buffett treasure chest of both the live and studio variety that even the most diehard fan can't match. I do see what you're saying though, there's lot of one-off stuff out there that's appeared on soundtracks and the like (see the Rarities CD thread) that would be most welcome on a box set.

I would love to see a new boxset with cleaned up version of what we currently have floating around in only bootlegs.

However I would be more interested in live versions of many songs from the pre-Radio Margaritaville era.

Even if no box set was to be released maybe a release of entire concerts from the early days like SONY has done for Bob Dylan.

Yes, it is except I could do without all of the radio edits. I'd much rather that space be devoted to more rare material.

I also second the notion for the release of archival live recordings in the manner of Dylan's Bootleg Series, the Grateful Dead's Dick's Picks, etc. I guess the only thing getting in the way of that would be the poor sound quality of bootleg recordings from that time period unless Buffett/MCA/ABC-Dunhill have some professionally recorded shows in the vault.

YEEP.

I think it's too soon for something like that. It's only been like 9 albums since Beaches, Boats, Bars and Ballads came out.

Maybe in 10 years it would be cool. Right now, I think he's too busy creating new stuff.
