The lifestyle is one that I WISH I had the means to live everyday.

That's what it's all about....escapism.

Well.....if you've REALLY studied pirate life in depth, you
might not really care for alot of it.

I disagree. It is the mixture of sentiment and humor that draw me in. People can relate to the characters in Jimmy's songs because we all, at some point, put ourselves out there in a manner that is not typical of a nine to five work life. Hanging at bars, traveling to find a long lost lover, wishing we were someplace other than here type s*** - know what I mean? Throw in a couple wacky songs about cheeseburgers and cell phones and I am hooked.

The pirate aspect is small in Jimmy's music - I have always thought . . . but present, I guess, and it is simple a metaphor for feeling crazy and adventurous evey now and then.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

I'm a fan because I like the music. I don't want to be a pirate or a beach bum or go sailing around the Caribbean. I like the music, period.

I prefer a shower in the morning.
I prefer to sleep in my own comfy bed.
I prefer tequila over rum.

No pirates life for me! :pirate:

Not to mention...Shall we say....Rather Fragrant..and not in a good way... :o :o

As to actually being a pirate, back in the day....no, probably not. But as to being an exploerer and a person of adventure Heck yes!!!....I WAS born 200 years too late! Even so, if you look at the unvarnished accounts of all of the great explorers.....they really were not known for their humanitarian exploits. They were mostly motivated out of personal gain and greed (Hmmm...sounds like a pirate...) but unlike most ppirates they were sanctioned by some governement or court or powerful group. Privateers on the other hand had the best of everything.....sanctioned, and let loose to do whatever mayhem they could get away with...... I'll take a Letter of Marque anyday!!!! Better than a "get out of jail free" card :o :o

"So that's it, then? That's the secret, grand adventure of the infamous Jack Sparrow. You spent three days lying on a beach drinking rum?"

Pirates are/were pretty nasty people. There's no way I could steal ships or
cargo or kill people just to support myself. That said, the romanticized pirate's
life looks like a ton of fun. As far as the sailing and music, that's what Buffett
is to me. (The rum doesn't hurt, either. 8) )

I will never know. As someone stated before...born two hundred years two late. But I love readin about them. And I may not have killed anyone, but as far as other things go, I've done my share. But never had enough money to buy Miami. Hell, I can barely afford my mortgage payment here.
