Yes?
No?
Dave and I will be flying into Vegas this summer... and we were wondering... what is this place Laughlin?
Have you been? Would you return? Is it a rip?
I like the fact that is is on the CO river.... looks like nice scenery
Any thoughts or opinions would be welcomed.

IMO... Laughlin is a place that people drive thru on their way to Vegas.
If you're looking to get out of Vegas for a day I might suggest Red Rock Canyon.

How is the gambling there? Loose? Tight?

Loser than the Strip... about the same as Downtown Vegas (Fremont Street is a sight if you've never seen it)

We go to Laughlin every spring for the bike rally.....I did pretty well there on the machines last year.....it's kind of cool to go to Lake Havasu and see the London Bridge.
Oatman, Arizona is close and it's a pretty drive.....cool little old west town with wild burros wandering all over the town.....
Laughlin itself is sort of like Reno/Elko/Wendover a strip of casinos with no a lot else to do......that strip of the river is not particularly scenic.....

My parents like Laughlin. It's where old people go to escape Vegas and gamble.
Watch out for polyester suits, knee-high tube socks worn with sandals, and enough vericose veins to circumference the earth.

We went in late August when we got out of the truck I had sunglass on and my eyes felt like "2 eggs in a hot frying pan" the outside temp was 119 and dry. we will not be going back in the summer any time soon.

It was HOT! HOT! HOT!

I am going this w/e to stay with friends outside Laughlin near the river- but we usually spend some time gambling

Most descriptions are accurate - the heat depends on the time of year. It is not as much fun as Vegas - more laid back and the casinos are not as close together.
PM me if you want more info.

We were just talking about this last night- my mom has her vacation house on the AZ side of Mesquite, NV and they love Laughlin- they say it is more laid back, cheaper, and the dealers actually smile at you while they are taking your money, unlike Las Vegas, where they consider it to be all business.
I get the feeling it is like Las Vegas used to be. I have never been to LV other than to see the current glitzy state, but I have been to smaller gambling cities and I think I know what they mean.
So my guess is that it is easier to get around, cheaper in general, and probably attracts a good number of old farts. But could be fun, if you are not looking for the 'party all night at a hot club' type of scene.

They love it there though!

When are you coming out this way? I'd love to join you at Margaritaville some afternoon for cocktails! I could probably provide some good tips on poker tournaments as well if I know what days you are looking.
If you're in town the first Wednesday of a month, you're always welcome to visit our phlocking for the Las Vegas Parrothead Club. Also, Phins to the West is happening first weekend in May if that happens to coincide with your trip.
Let me know and hope to meet up!
