Margaritaville Vs. KISS

Post by doxadive »

I was watching the Gene Simmons show on A&E this weekend and found it very entertaining. however, it led me to this question. which brand is more profitable on an annual basis. KISS is licensed on everything. if gene simmons can put the name on it and sell it he will, where margaritaville is a brand and product to itself with the cafe's and food/alcohol producet. THe thought behind this question is, how viable is the KISS brand these days? i remember them being huge in the 70-80's but do they still produce and sell albums? do they tour extensively to sold out shows each year. i am not sure. any one have any answers?

There's both a Margaritaville and a KISS Coffee House at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach. While the M'ville is a much larger location, the amount of people that I have seen in the restaurant vs. coffee house and retail store vs. retail store is 100 to 1 at the restaurant and 10:1 at the retail stores in favor of JB

KISS is good in concert, but Jimmy is a lifestyle.

Kiss is still big business, after all they are on their 15th Farewell Tour. If you include all the business ventures I suspect that Jimmy is a bigger money maker but I'm not certain.

Actually I just read something where Simmons turned down an offer to do a tour that would include Ace and Peter (who he ousted from the band in recent years due to alcohol and drug abuse). That's not to say he won't mount another farewell tour without them as he and Paul have already done but there's no farewell tour in the planning at present, at least not that I'm aware of.

When it comes to their commercial ventures I'd say they're very similiar but Simmons has been much more blatant about Kiss', at least until Buffett comes out with a Tin Cup Chalice casket or something.

Yeah, the Kiss coffin was taking things a bit far. Simmons will put the logo on anything to sell it, and is damn proud of that fact. Jimmy more sticks to things catered to his "lifestyle selling", and I think both are doing just fine, but Kiss has lost a lot of appeal due to not really being around anymore.
And I have seen MiniKiss at a bachelor party, and it is even more disturbing than you think it would be. :o

The KISS merchandise still sells pretty well, but nothing like it did in the 70's. It is probably comparible to JB, but I would think JB outdoes KISS at this point. They usually sell out most of their shows. I've seen 2 Farewell shows that were sold out, although Aerosmith was billed with them for one of them.

Kiss vs. Buffett

Post by Patriotic Phlocker »

I am a long time Kiss fan. When you start comparing these two together, one thing seems very clear. Kiss via Gene is still in the spotlight because of his creative ways of pushing his product. There is a demand because he finds it. Jimmy on the other hand has created a lifestyle that is almost self feeding in its demand for more. I am a newer ParrotHead in that I have been a diehard buffett fan for a little less than two years but I have found myself counting down until the next concert on my way home from the last.

Bottom line...It is hard to beat Buffett. I think the deadheads are getting jealous as well.

Don't knock Kiss too much. They put on a spectacle. Thier shows are second to none. They set the bar for stage performances, to the point jimmy even references thier show in His songs or at least one.

Do you see a knock on the real Kiss in my statement??????? I have seen Kiss, and yes I even have heard that one song by JB that mentions Kiss (Manana)..It is on the SYKBH album right? It must be because that is the only album I have, and I sure would like to see Jimmy in concert some time though, I heard it is real fun and people even dress up and stuff!!!!

Saw KISS a few years ago with Aerosmith and there were lots of folks dressed up...they seemed really into it.

I wasn't impressed with their performance (I was never a KISS fan).

However, one of my friends is a big KISS fan.
Even so, he has a poster and a fridge magnet, but there's only so much that even he will buy as far as "merchandise" goes.
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after every now and then.

No, did not mean it that way. Just they are each good at their own thing. I have seen Kiss 3 times and am waiting to see Jimmy for the second time on July 28th. At a Kiss show, they are the spectacle. At a Jimmy show the whole day before through the end of the show is the spectacle.
I know you are all hoping for a Boise show and if he comes make sure you go. You will never be the same.

FYI - Manana is off Son of a Son of a Sailor and is also found on the box set.

I am just kidding!!!! I have seen JB 27 times and owned every album (at one time or another), not to mention my dogs name is Buffett. I am a little overboard with "That damn Buffett thing of yours" as some family members might say.
Come on Vegas in May baby!!!!!! :D

I do think Paul Stanley is a little cheesy in concert though...
