Home ownership is the American Dream, my ---

Post by Nole Pirate »

Argh. I hate owning a home. My washer broke, so I replace it. The new one then has problems, so they come fix it. Well it broke again today. On top of that my AC broke. I also have to replace the carpet upstairs and paint the outside before the end of June. Man I want to go back to renting and let some one else pay for this stuff. :x

Two remodeled bathrooms and one mold remediation process later, I feel your pain. And that is just the UPSTAIRS of my house.

Hang in there, it only gets worse.

"A house is a hole in the ground into which one throws money."

On the plus side, I can plant whatever I want in the yard, and I could put in a tiki bar. :)

Houses and kids eat up just about all of most people's time as well as money.
If and when you finally get ahead of the game, you find out that boats and other toys are even bigger money pits.
Why do you think we all dream about Margaritaville and live vicariously through other peoples experiences and travels? :pirate:

Yeah. We pressure washed the house this weekend, only to find that in order to get all the dirt off, we would have to get rid of the paint. So it looks like we'll be painting the entire inside and outside of the house pretty soon. Yuck. And we have to do something with the flooring too (we took up the carpet and the hardwood needs to be refinished or new carpet. But I'm kind of thinking screw it, it's Michigan and wouldn't sell anyway.

One of my favorites.

Had one house in my life from 1993 to 2004. It had some good points, but I'm in no big hurry to ever own another one. More headaches to me than renting.

We bought our house 23 years ago. Everybody told us that the lot and neighborhood warrant a much nicer and bigger house, and that our's would only be re-sold again as a tear-down.
I always believed that, so never did the typical "neccesary" improvements that others find so important.
Saved alot of time and money over the years with that attitude, and the sky didn't fall.
It just proves that alot of the things you THINK have to be done don't neccesarily.
Homeowners that WANT to do stuff always justify it by convincing themselves that it will add value to the house......NOT!!!!!!!!!
Do it if you want it or need it, but don't think that you must.
A new furnace or roof is one thing, flooring, interior painting, decorating and window treatments, etc. are another.
I know of no one that can have it all-up-dated home, nice cars, travel , free time, family time, relaxation, etc.
Well, MAYBE Jimmy.
The rest of us just have to set our own priorities.

Maybe it's not such a bad deal after all.
Chris Farley's motivational speaker may have had a longer life if he DID end up living in a van down by the river and eating government cheese.

My husband had our house when I met him. It is now worth 3 times what he paid for it and we have been mortgage free for 7 years. Nice feeling!

I don't recommend renting. I just wanted to remind everyone that ownership can be cheaper than many people make it.
Our house is also worth 3 times what we paid for it, despite the region's worse than average appreciation, and without the "updates" and up-grades that we have skipped.
Now mortgage free also, I used the term"we" in the last post and this one as well for the purchase, but just as in Caly's case, I purchased the home before my wife and I met.
The 25 year old keet? Diane's from a previous marraige, I've raised her since she was 6.
