can't do the raw don't think so.
Moonie, I'd recommend UC food for all male cats. Nearly every male cat i've had has had a problem with this if not on the food. The vet bill for treating it once is so much. And it can be so bad you need a very expensive surgery to treat it. I have been meaning to gather some info on holistic treatment. From what I can see lack of liquid is a big part since in the wild cats would get 80% of their liquid from prey.

Mine would starve before they'd eat raw, anything...perhaps feral cats will. These are spoiled rotten house cats.

ocg, the cat that has the issues is an altered female. When she got in the cheaper cat food is when her problem started, as it did previously when she did the same thing.

It seems to be better though, there is no longer blood in her urine, and I'm going to start her on the Purnia UC tomorrow. She switched to the Hill's reasonably well, that was a couple of weeks ago, and I'm changing it again tomorrow.

I am definitely pushing the envelope.

that is pretty rare for a female. My cat is a pretty wild Maine Coon. But he'd never eat anything raw either. He won't touch people food and I can't even get him to eat canned. But, like i said he's doing well on the purina. After doing some research I'd like to switch him to something with meat as the first ingredient, and not meat fillers. But I'm afraid to mess with things as my previous cat had repeated problems with UTI always traced to changes in food or for some reason getting something he wasn't supposed to. He always got out so it was harder to control what he ate.

Sabou is a grey tabby and the only other time she had a UTI was when she got the really cheap food intended for the racoons (and the occasional possum)

my cats go in and out..chase anything that will run from them, but won't kill what they catch. Very few lizards here have tails...all four of them are either 10 yrs. old or getting close to that.

They love their Purina Cat Chow and seem to know when a new bag has been opened. Spankie, black altered male will eat turkey, if it's torn into small pieces by hand...I was cutting it up with scissors, he wouldn't touch it...Sam tore it up with his hands and he'll eat it and want more...go figure..they're cats...

They like their cat treats but the others won't touch any human food...look at it with disgust if offered...

Once I get her over this, I'll have to bite the bullet and let the wild critters eat what the cats are having..

I just got an email from Purina that it's

Alpo Prime Cuts in Gravy that's being voluntarily recalled and listed the codes that were involved.

...that NO PURINA DRY CAT OR DOG FOOD... is involved...

Prime Cuts in Gravy...our dogs eat dry food...I could never manage to open a can of that stuff without gagging...

they'll probably feed it to cattle that we'll eventually eat...

a girl I work with had a $329 vet bill ..but MenuFoods is supposed to reimburse monies spent on vet bills...

they almost did exploratory surgery on her cat about a week before the first recall was announced...

she was feeding the wet food that was in the first recall...

I know some people may not like the thought of suing, but some people spent hundreds and even thousands of dollars trying to get their beloved pet well. A class action suit has been started to try to recoup some of these expenses.

Seconding the Phin Power.

And feeling very grateful that (so far), none of the recalled foods are the dry foods I feed my kitties or puppy. I'm getting a little nervous as the recall lists keep increasing though.

This is really scary! We have no control over what is in the foods. We are relying on these companies to provide safe food for us. I wonder how much they saved by buying contaminated grain from China

Nutmeg has a lot of allergies so I have been feeding them Wellness foods.

They don't contain wheat, wheat gluten or corn gluten, nor meat "by products", rendered animal fats, cellulose, peanut hulls, white rice, soy nor artificial colors, flavors or preservatives according to the package. The main ingredient is human grade deboned chicken.

Nutmeg is also allergic to fish...it is one of the few brands I've found that doesn't stick fish in every flavor of the food.

The stuff is expensive and I can only find it at one store in our area. I usually have them order me several cases of it whenever I go in. I just started feeding them the dry as well as the wet version.

I had been feeding them the Hills Natures Best dry as an in between meal snack. That hasn't been recalled (yet), but I'm taking no chances so out it goes.

I have a feeling the Wellness may be harder for me to get in the future since the lady at the store mentioned that a lot of people were switching to it.

My girls had no trouble, but I've heard others mention that it is a lot richer than the old foods and caused some digestive difficulties when their pets were first switched over. (They recommend mixing old and new food for a while... (as long as your old food wasn't one of the recalled)

Anyway, phin power to all the pets affected....and may it be an expensive enough mistake (the only thing corporations understand) that they are more careful with our loved ones lives in the future.
