Looks like it is just Hill's Prescription dry catfood at this point...

Thanks
Had not heard that. I have 2 cats that had some of the canned food but they seem okay. One has been in kidney failure for over a year and he seems the best he has been in a while. Hope its not the calm before .....

Thanks, Shannnon...
I just bought Science Diet for one of my cats that has uti issues...
out of 4 cats I was able to isolate which one has problems and the vet recommended c/d feline cat food ...@12.95/4#
with 4 cats I make an effort to see that only the cat that needs it, gets to that feed bowl..
makes the others wonder what's going on...
this issue is going to end up being our of food also? it's been hinted people are starting to speculate.
can we survive w/o importing foods from other countries?

Moonie....I have a recipe for natural cat food recipe if you would like it. Still deciding if I'm gonna switch Maverick to it....

I yes I definitely want it...thank you thank you.
she cannot eat less expensive cat food..and I had purchased some for the racoons..trying to keep the cats out of it...I guess she must have gotten in to it...
I can handle the Purina Cat Chow and she does very well w/that...Bad idea on my part..the racoons are back on Purina, too..
she's had 2 rounds of antibiotics, we figure there's some crystalization going on and this Science Diet is formulated specifically for that...
I'm ready to try anything...

Sunseeker, would you post the recipe? I'm looking into switching to homemade too. Although what worries me most about the recall is the number of people that will freak out and start feeding a homemade diet that's nutritionally more damaging than the tainted food.

my dog is on hill's c/d.....this makes me nervous, I know it's just the cat food so far, but where does it stop....I can't switch her to another food because she has bad ut problems.....
yeah, looks like I'll be feeding raw/natural.....

On the advice of our Vet, we just switched to the Hills MD
earlier this year. So far they have gone through 11/2 full 4 lb
bags and we just bought a 10 lb bag
We are taking all that we have left back to the vet today
It makes me wonder just how long have these Hills people
known about this.

This is very disturbing. Unfortunately I don't think this is the last we'll see this and I think somewhere down the road contaminated food from China or some other NAFTA trade zone country will seriously affect humans. One of my biggest concerns is all the genetic engineered foods being planted, especially corn and soy beans. With the big ethanol boom, there will be more and more GE corn planted. I was recently on a shuttle with a veternarian from Iowa and asked how much GMO corn was planted. HE said about 70% of the current supply. You KNOW it will be deemed safe for human consupmtion. Check out this study-
Berlin, Germany — Laboratory rats, fed with a genetically engineered (GE) maize produced by Monsanto, have shown signs of toxicity in kidney and liver, according to a new study.(1) This is the first time that a GE product which has been cleared for use as food for humans and animals has shown signs of toxic effects on internal organs.
The study, published today in the journal “Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology”, analysed results of safety tests submitted by Monsanto to the European Commission when the company was seeking authorisation to market its GE Maize variety MON863 in the EU. (2)
The data shows that MON863 has significant health risks associated with it; nonetheless, the European Commission granted licences to market the maize for consumption by both humans and animals. (3)
My first thought for the sick pets was they had some of this product mixed into thier foods.

I think the dry food is a precautionary recall, as they purchased some of the same batch of wheat gluten.

I have nine cats and all eat the Purina One Urinary diet. They are doing great on it. The vet I use said it was a good option since two of my boys have gotten blocked before. They also suggested using bottled or filtered water.
I'm waiting to see how extensive this recall becomes. So far, several of us at work have had to return food. One of my coworkers lost her rabbit due to the tainted cat food.
I need to buy dog food tomorrow but I am waiting to see if any other dry foods are added to the list. I may shell out the money for the Royal Canin Chihuahua formula just because they haven't been involved in any of this yet.
We feed Eukanuba products at work and check the lot numbers religiously. Several of our clients have expressed concern about it. This is a scary thing when you make your living in the pet industry.
I'm waiting for the recall to start in human products.

I purchased this very cat food this evening..
half the price of Hill's Science Diet, so there won't be that much of an issue with the other cats eating it.
Dogs eat Little Bites Purina/ or Purina Dog Chow...I don't believe they are involved in any recalls..

Purina added some of the Alpo brand wet to the recall. None of their dry at this point.
My cats are all doing great on it.
I worked private vet practice as a licensed tech for several years. Hills had a monopoly for awhile. Slowly the other pet food makers are moving in on them. Personally having fed Hills for a few years, I think my kids have better hair coats and attitudes on the Purina and no problems in the last year.

Moonie -
I have a cat with UTI issues and dealt with this for years with my previous cat for years. After a time when they were very sick on the script food I went to first, an expensive UTI food and then, in an emergency purina Urinary care. Because I'm not a great planner I often ended up with the purina. Also, my cat was picky and he'd always eat this. For over a year i've been using it without a single problem. Another tip is to get a pet drinking fountain and to try to get your cat to eat some of the UC canned food once or twice a week. This will increase their fluids.
About the home made food, how does it work? Do you know how it is for cats with UTI issues. I've heard that home made is better because it's mostly meat, which has more liquid and less other junk.

Because of the sheer numbers of cats, and dogs, that I own. I usually had several stray cats the depended on me for their daily intake...that was in OK...
Same here, beside the 4 cats, there are 2 more that are here almost every day...
I've always depended on Purina as the main stay. Except for my precious Murphy cat that had feLuk, the vet recommended Science Diet for him.
Thanks for the info ocg.,..I'm going to see how she does on the Purnia Uninary Care while I try them on the home prepared...
it's definitely going to take some effort on my part to switch them over from their dry cat food...I've never fed them wet, it makes me gag...

You primarily feed raw chicken- BARF is pretty accurate.
