Does Weather Rule Your Life?

Does Weather Rule Your Life?

A few days ago I could'nt figure out how to fit in all that I wanted to do.
It was 81 degrees and sunny (shattering the record for the day here in Metro Detroit).
I had to work, but also wanted to walk, bike, skateboard, get stuff done on the cars, do some yard cleanup, etc., and there just wasn't enough time.
I also wanted to kick back and have a Landshark Lager, enjoy the scenery and sounds, and just chill.
Today the weather sucked (or to be more correct it was typical for the end of March in Michigan).
I did some desk work, a little housework, a little more housework (my wife is out of town), and got in a little bit of indoor excercise.
Aside from that, I've been on BN all day.
The kids have been bored as well.
The day would have been entirely different if the sun was out and we hit at least 59 degrees.
I have friends whose lives are un-influenced by weather.
For our family it's as critical as day vs night!!!!!!!
I would think that most Parrotheads are equaly influenced by weather changes.
Are You?????????????

I hate cold and grey weather, which is why as soon as I finished school in Indiana and Michigan - I moved South.

The warm and sunny weather down here makes me feel good, even when 'stuff happens'

We think about that all Fall and Winter, and the first half of Spring.
Then it gets nice out, we enjoy the second half of Spring and the entire Summer. Then hurricaine season hits FL, and we're still fine here.
By Halloween we get depressed, and only the three upcoming trips to FL allow us to hang on.
Then the cycle starts all over again
One of these days...................

I do okay until February......

I enjoy the changing of the seasons and I love the cold, wintery weather during the holidays....but then February comes and I get depressed and grouchy......I always tell my family that if they will be patient with me through February, I'll make it up to them in the spring!

I really TRY not to let the weather influence what I do....if we have plans, we go ahead with them through just about anything (we've ridden the motorcycles through snowstorms, although that is NOT something I recommend), but I do find that I will often look at the forecast BEFORE making plans.....

I do look forward to spring and being outdoors....barbecues, campouts, fishing, hiking.....

We had learned how not to let the weather interfere with good times.
We always got outside year round no matter what.
As we got older (and of course the keets did too), its just become less enjoyable and more of an effort.
Mid winter is fine-we go snowboarding and kite-skating and kite-boarding, and the coldest days have the brightest sun.
It's really November and March that are the worst-30 days straight without seeing the sun, no snow or ice for winter sports, etc.
We're going to FL next week, and after that we'll all be fine til Halloween.
It's just days like today, and hearing JD talk about the beautiful day in Orlando that get me thinking-what are we, nuts?????

By the way, there are exceptions.
That pic in my sig was taken just a few weeks ago. Thats not white water/foam in the background. That white stuff is ice!!!!!!! Not a bad day for mid-March in Michigan!!

depends. on the days I have something to look forward to, even grey days don't bother me. If it is cold here, it is nothing like it was growing up in MN and MT. Rain.. nah, just means drivers here are going to be idiots. and snow.. no worries.

so no. check it when I get up to see if I need the leathers in the spring and fall, but weather doesn't rule my life

I would have to say that it MUST...

It will be sunny and 75ยบ for the Padres home opener on Friday night :P
and I value THAT over the fact
that I will have to pay $3.35 a gallon... about $75 total... to fill up my pickup truck tomorrow

I live in California 8)

We have winter, including snow. I do enjoy all the season. Yet I find myself longing for spring to turn to summer, summer to turn to fall and fall to turn to winter and winter to spring. We enjoy all the months. I have to admit there's a certain depression of all the things we missed during summer that can never be recaptured.

We'd planned a nice, long harley ride today.....planned on going to Idaho for lottery tickets....woke up and it was chilly and looked like rain....we were on the verge of canceling and I thought about this thread......we put on an extra layer and off we went....set the iPod for nothin' but Buffett and we "Took the Weather with Us".....got a little cold a couple of times....but the good vibes managed to hold off the rain.....now, let's just hope the numbers hit!

I've actually been amazed at the number of days that there is full sunshine in this part of coastal southeast Georgia....

it does cloud up and when a tropical storm is just off the coast, it can rain 12 inches and for 10 straight days..

but other than that, the occasional thunderstorm (OK daily in the summer) which last about 30 to 45 mins...you have mostly sun shiny days.

Oh yeah, other than hurricanes.....

I like living in the Midwest as long as I can take a couple of warm-weather trips during the winter months. I really love the different seasons - spring, summer and autumn. I even enjoy winter up until March.

Today was a good example.
Forcast was for clouds and rain, but in the 60's (way above average).
We had no expectations for good outdoor weather.
Headed out with the boys, let the youngest who turns 16 tomorrow drive for some last minute practice (why he wants to take the test in the manual trans car I don't quite understand).
After a few errands with plenty more to go, the sun came out and stayed out.
Waiting in lines at stores and such became to hard to tolerate while watching the suddenly nice day slip away, so we blew off the rest of the list to head home and play.
Unloaded fast, got out the skateboards, shreded the neighborhood , swaped out some bearings, started working on outdoor stuff, turned up RM on the Sirius Boombox , and popped open one of the last of the Landshark Lagers from the Feb FL trip and started to really feel good about the end of the weekend.
It lasted for 2 hours, and then transitioned to thick clouds, STRONG winds, and rain.
It changed everything, and everybody's mood as well.
Alot of my friends aren't fazed by it, but not because they are so flexible, but because they don't really do anything outside even when it's nice.
Weather DEFINATLY effects the activity level of my family members, and causes plans to change in an instant.
Maybe it's because we have so few nice sunny weekends per year here in MI that it becomes so important.
Rain in FL is usually welcome by full time residents, provided it's not due to a Hurricane, and they know it won't be long before the next sunny day.
We know it could be another month away!!
By the way, snow is forcast for Thursday!!!!!!!!!

   We had 5 kids in my family. We ALL had to learn the stickshift, and take our license on it.

As far as the weather? Not really. There's over 300 days of sun in Colorado, which I love just as much as a welcomed rainy or stormy day. Yeah, there's snow and MOST years it's not that big of a deal. :)

I taught our daughter and both boys to drive in a car with a stick and manual steering. We still have it, and with the top down that old cracked open muffler lets them know real fast if they messed up.
They think driving our newer 5-speed manual with power steering and a linkage that does what you tell it to is a piece of cake.
The automatics? They don't count it as driving.

My first 5 cars were stick shift. Love driving them.
But automatics are a must when you drive 30-60 minutes twice a day in traffic. :-?
