While I agree that they think oral sex is "safer" than intercourse...I believe it is a combo of both. Kids in 6th and 7th grade do not veiw oral sex as sex...I am very involved in the school system as well as church and talk to kids all the time about these issues....Clinton very seriously played a role in their thinking.Lightning Bolt wrote:Gotta disagree with the "Slick Willie" angle. His episode has nothing to do with this new "attitude".
This has more to do with the "I'm having safer sex this way" and being able to claim sexual activity to their peers without sacrificing virginity and the moral high gound (!!)
And I agree with SS...we've created these monsters we call our future!

Not to defend Clinton, but the girls mentioned in the article were about 1 year old when Clinton was receiving the services of Ms. Lewisnky...somehow I doubt the event had any bearing on their moral development.
I am not blaming Clinton for young girls moral developement...but I do blame him for making oral sex seem less than what it is.

Until the Clinton/Lewinsky affair hit the news, I'd never heard a teacher talk about 2nd graders discussing oral sex....
Shannon, I believe you've hit about as close it as gets as to what has caused it...
unfortunately, I don't see a turn around in the future, however, I have heard that it'll swing to the other end of the spectrum eventually....:dunno:

Same is true of a Buffett tailgate/show. And now employers are wising up and looking to the internet to find this dirt on their prospective employees...you'd think that might make some of the women think twice...but they don't seem to care.sunseeker wrote:I don't think this can be blamed on any one person, but society as a whole. Television, film, music videos, and music promotes promiscuity and the sexualization of females in our society. Look back to when we were growing up...what was acceptable on TV? And what is acceptable now? Girls gone wild and the adoration of women who are willing to bare all just to get a few moments of attention. Reality TV...."The Real World" started off as a really cool show that showed young adults living together while pursuing their dreams. Now its about the alcohol and the hook ups. Look at our role models for young girls in particular. Britney, Paris, Lindsey - all have found themselves in situations that back in the day would have destroyed their careers. Instead the paparazzi continue to follow them becasue we continue to buy the magazines that make them so popular. WE have allowed this to happen as we accept what they dish out to us in the media. I believe WE have created this monster.

Still, the source of the problem is letting 2nd graders have access to that information. Even if that stuff is on as background noise while they play, they still retain it. That's just not the type of stuff kids should see and hear. While Clinton might have made it seem like oral sex isn't "sex" what the hell is a 2nd grader doing hearing about it?kitty wrote:While I agree that they think oral sex is "safer" than intercourse...I believe it is a combo of both. Now, I can honestly say that even my son, as young as he is, already expresses attraction to women. He knows what boobies are and knows he likes them. It's kind of frightening really. On the other hand, my daughter who is older and knows the ins and outs of reproduction wants nothing to do with that icky stuff. It involves boys, so therefore nothing good can come of it. I don't ever remember her expressing any kind of interest in any of that. Maybe the closest she came was asking in Kindergarten if girls could marry girls and boys could marry boys. I told her only in Canada and Massachussetts.

I remember having a crush on my preschool teacher. I was very aware of "women" but I didn't have clue one about sex until about 7th or 8th grade. I knew about kissing prior to that but that was as far as it went.buffettbride wrote:Still, the source of the problem is letting 2nd graders have access to that information. If we want to make a change in our culture, we must reward businesses that provide the image that we want projected and punish those that promote the ones that we don't want. I don't mean legally punish them but rather don't buy the magazines, don't go to the movies, or watch the TV shows that promote hook ups, etc. If you want to get a business's attention just whack it upside the bottom line. If you are unwilling to do this and promote this approach to your friends and family then it is unlikely to change.

I was at a 5th grade school function last night... they're just kids. My daughter tells me about some of her classmates who swear, and she thinks it's as wrong as I do. But sex???
In a classroom???

no worries. When I first saw it this morning, I saw it was a Northern LA descriptor. I got curious when you mentioned the hurricane thing. I remember the line from "Blaze" where they tell Earl K. "when was the last time you carried a parish below Baton Rouge? We can help you carry Assumption, Ascension, St. Martin, St. John, ...".SchoolGirlHeart wrote:ah... sorry, my bad.... I believe SS hit the nail right on the head.....
I went shopping for my four year old granddaughter.....I was surprised to see that little girls clothes are no longer little girls clothes....they are adult clothes shrunken.....in the toddler sizes obviously there are still cutesy things...but you get in to regular little girl sizes and it's kind of disturbing.
We live in a highly sexualized society......tits and a$$ are currency and our young women are learning that earlier and earlier.
I'm so fortunate that my 14 year old is level headed and truly age appropriate for the most part. We were talking the other day about music and she said she missed 'old music'....SHE is the one that mentioned 'back in the day' the Beatles "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"....and now it's all about down and dirty sex. She wondered why no one just wants to hold hands anymore.....
It's sad and frightening and makes me think perhaps the Amish are on to something......

I think it's interesting how so many of us (myself included, although I didn't post it) wondered about what the kids might be charged with.
Back in the day, the discussion would probably have centered more around how their parents would have had them out in the woodshed for a good whippin' ... no courts involved....
Not saying either discussion is right or wrong, just a sign of the change in the times....

I said the same thing to my mom when we were shopping for clothes for DeeDee's 4th bday last month. They aren't little girl clothes, they are hooker clothes. Bring back the garanimals.pbans wrote:I believe SS hit the nail right on the head.....

Very good point Jen. It shouldn't take a law for kids to know having sex (at that age, at all, in a classroom no less) is wrong.
Another thing that may or may not have anything to do with it, but I wonder if these girls have "daddy issues" or have seen one of their parents behave in this way.
I'd like to smack all of them upside the head.
