Our society has created this. But what is wrong with holding parents responsible for the actions of their children, along with the children? Parents are supposed to teach their kids right from wrong. And if they have to work, then they are suppsoed to ensure that their kids are being cared for by responsible adults, but in the end it is the parent's responsibility.sunseeker wrote:I don't think this can be blamed on any one person, but society as a whole. . . This is absolutely disturbing!

Back in the day, the discussion would probably have centered more around how their parents would have had them out in the woodshed for a good whippin' ... no courts involved....
Not saying either discussion is right or wrong, just a sign of the change in the times....
in some ways, it would be nice if it was as easy as "out to the woodshed" and no courts involved.

I'm with ya there, sista. It is almost impossible to find a dolly for a little girl these days. We never let Victoria have them. like I said... change in the times.... I'm certainly not an advocate of beating a child, but sometimes a spanking or a switching can sure get their attention.... The magazine and Web site don't have advertisements and all the girls are strong role model examples, even in the face of some serious issues.

Spanking isn't illegal anywhere. Beating the crap out of your kid is. Although as much as I hate either of them, there's a HUGE difference and usually the law acknowledges that.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:like I said... change in the times.... there are way too many parents today that believe it's the school system's responsibility to discipline their children; and when they punish them then they scream you're picking on their kid..
corporal punishment has all but been banned from most Public School Systems..
it's just a big mess...

My dad finally quite teaching when a kid yelled "f*** you" in his face and when he called the parents they said, "that's your problem, not ours." He said there was a day when the kid would have been likely to come in black and blue the next day....Moonie wrote:there are way too many parents today that believe it's the school system's responsibility to discipline their children; and when they punish them then they scream you're picking on their kid...

In all reality, it's the kids who get the crap beat out of them who are gonna be having sex in a classroom, likely not the ones who have been traditionally spanked.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:buffettbride wrote:Spanking isn't illegal anywhere. omg, i think i just said that
I just happen to think a respectful (of others and oneself) child can be raised without spanking or hitting of any kind, period. But that's just me, and it's worked pretty well so far.

My kids are far from perfect, like most kids. When a teacher called about my son's misbehavior in class ;ast year, she seemed surprised that I was angry with my son rather than her!

There's just no consequences anymore. I think it should be reasonable to expect if a child behaves that way toward the teacher then they are suspended. Now it's warnings, and paperwork, calls to home, and nothing that really drives home the message. The schools can't because of the risk of legal action and many parents just won't recognize that their child is doing something wrong.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:My dad finally quite teaching when a kid yelled "f*** you" in his face and when he called the parents they said, "that's your problem, not ours." And I mostly agree about spanking... I think it depends on the child.... I very, very rarely spanked. Other methods usually worked better. But once in a very great while a smack on a four-year-old bottom got the desired results.
