Jimmy Will Never Tour Like A Madman Again

Post by TraderRick »

OK, I admit I had high hopes of a great concert year. I was wrong-very wrong. From the looks of things (until his farewell tour) seems like it's "Buffett Lite" from now on. Whereas last year he had 28 concerts(scratch that-make it 33)... he's on track to probably just do around 23 this year. And it could be we see it hover around 20 for the next couple of years. :( :-? That's the real dealio I guess...so see him where and when you can!

Looking at the Past Tours list it shows 28... maybe I'm missing something.
Great Easter picture by the way!

The thing is with the 2 sold out Boston shows (120,000 tickets sold, I think) and the nearly sold our Houston and Frisco, Texas shows (I think around 70,000 tickets), it seems like Jimmy is realizing that he can sell out stadiums and not just in Boston & Chicago.

It may just be a matter of time that instead of Alpine & Tinley, Jimmy does his Midwest shows at Soldier Field. Seeing him at Lambeau Field would actually be kind of cool.

Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. But, why play twenty 20,000 seat venues when you can play seven 60,000 seat venues and make more money with less time.

I believe Jimmy and his organization are trying to make tickets more available to fans and less apealing to brokers and scalpers.

15 mostly stadium shows will gross and net alot more than 30+ venue shows and since it appears like jimmy can reliably sell out a stadium that's the future.

I'd feel bad for you, but I have no soul.....

Dawgfan,

I think you're right about the scalpers. I think the $150 pavillion seats are a great idea. Last year for a number of shows, ticket brokers took a bath when they learned that not many people will pay twice the mark up on a $150 ticket. I remember the Phoenix shows and all teh California shows last spring having lots of tickets for below face value on ebay in the week before the show.

Did you get the sense from Jimmy's people that you were fortunate enough to meet that theer will be more shows like Anguilla? I certainly hope so as I would love to plan more vacations around a Jimmy Buffett show somewhere really fun!

With all the Passport nightmares this free trip ended up being slightly expensive, but it was worth it. :D

I agree...I'm just grateful for the mere fact he continues to hit the road at all these days. Bottom line, with the way thing's are going... if the concert's within 500 miles-just get there! It's actually about a thousand miles for us!! :D

He had a special deal on his website where you could order 2 CDs together - Roots & Herbs and Chariots - and you get a special gift. I didn't think you could ship that stuff through the mail.

Not to worry, of the shows he does play, 90% of them will be in the northeast and midwest, leaving the rest of us out in the cold again  . If anybody does not have the right to gripe, it is the folks in the NE who still get to see JB at least 3-6 times a year within a 3 hour drive.

I knew that this would probably be the case this year and am glad that I went to Tally in February. I will be at the Philips Arena show and we are flying to Alpine Valley. So I am doing everything I can to maintain as normal a summer as possible.
