Thank you all for your hugs, love, and prayers. I really could feel them, and they helped me through a difficult day with a strength I never expected. I'm the baby of a wonderful family, and along with our friends, thank God we have eachother! ((((((Gary, Cheryl, Lynne, Gregg, and Guy))))))

Our mom has spent the year in hospitals and nursing homes. About 2 months ago, I happened to see the video for Garth Brooks "If Tomorrow Never Comes" on tv one night.

With the final verse...

"So tell that someone that you love
Just what you're thinking of
If tomorrow never comes"

...I wrote a poem to my mom, and it's been hanging in her room ever since. It was right there beside me while I was holding her hand, so I read it aloud to her.

Mom, do you know how much I love you
and that you're always in my heart
when we're spending time together
and when we find ourselves apart?

Mom, do you know how much you've always meant
and how much I've always cared?
I feel lucky, blessed, and grateful
for all the memories that we've shared!

Mom, do you know the comfort of your hugs
and the reassurance of your touch?
Do you know the twinkle in your eyes
when you smile and beam so much?

Mom, do you know how much I admire you
and how I value your ideals?
Do you know you made me all I am
and how loved you make me feel?

Mom, do you know how proud I am
of how you raised our family
to share a special closeness
with bonds as tight as they can be?

Mom, do you know it makes me tender
that my girls do love you so
and they cherish times with Grandma
for all the kindness that you show?

Mom, do you know how much I appreciate
all the many things you do
while always giving of yourself
to help us make it through?

Mom, do you know that you're an angel
and have been all along
and when you get to Heaven
you'll be right where you belong?

Mom, do you know how much I'll miss you
but how I'll think of you and smile?
Do you know you're the best mom ever
and I've known that all the while?

Outside in the courtyard, where my siblings were, church bells were ringing.

Sail on (((((Mom)))))

Feel the love of God's embrace, feel his peace and comfort

 :)

And again, thank you all... yes, I can still feel it. ((((((((BN)))))))))

I was on the UTA (Drill) weekend shuttle that flew from Keesler to MacDill (Tampa) up to Dobbins (Atlanta) and then back down to Keesler....

We offloaded about 11 military people in Tampa and picked up 6 pax(Including one of our crew members in Tampa).... with that onload was a family of 3 (mom, dad and little girl... maybe 7???) ... the crew talked about letting the little girl (with mom or dad) go up to the cockpit..... I talked with dad about it while the little girl was sleeping and dad was THRILLED! She slept all the way up to Dobbins and on that offload one of our Wx officers handed me HER Hurricane Hunter Patch (its on our right sleeve) to give to the little girl (I was going to give her my patch but she beat me to it)... After 17 pax & 3 crew drop off at Dobbins.... the little girl went back to sleep and slept all the way to Keesler.... she never had a chance to go up to the cock pit :( I walked the 5 pax to the awaiting vehicle at Keesler and dad thanked me for the cockpit visitor offer.

I can't top this one unless...

ritzyparrot1 wrote:Greetings Parrotheads! :D

You know, I have the best Parrothead wife. I have to first share with you a great story and then ask for your help.

Birthday's sometimes come and go with not much ado. Well, this is the story of my 40th birthday two years ago and it's a great story if I do say so myself. It started early the morning before my birthday. My wife had a business trip planned that required her to go to Memphis from Kentucky. Like a good husband, I agreed to drop her off at the airport to avoid the high parking fees. The only issues for me was that one, her flight left at 7 am and two, I would have to spend my birthday eve night alone.

At 5 am, here I am 1/2 asleep speeding across town to the airport and then off to work about 2 hours early. Not a good start to my day. Well, as I pull up to the airport, I kindly asked my wife if she would like me to drop her off at the curb or park in short-term parking and walk her in. She looked at me with a odd grin and said, "Why don't pull into long-term?" Being very early and still very groggy, I began to explain to her how stupid of an idea that was. She again said, this time more demanding, pull into long term. Again I began to argue when she said "JUST DO IT!". So of course I did and proceed to ask why.

With a grin the size of Texas, she handed me a small booklet with a bow on it and says, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY...WE'RE GOING TO MEXICO!" I think I said "WHAT???" about 100 time. I had to go to work, hell, I was scheduled to speak at a work event today, I have to..., I have to... I'M GOING TO MEXICO???? (Of course I did not even notice that Jimmy's version of Mexico was playing on the CD the entire way to the airport.)

A few hours later, I was walking into a wonderful resort in Cancun Mexico. Still very confused of course. To make a long story short, we have a outstanding 5 day trip in paradise with a crazy birthday night in th Cancun's Margaritaville with plenty of Jose and Bud Light.

Well...It's two years later and my wife's 40th is about 8 months away and I have to top that!?!?!?!

Here's where I need your help. Did I say HELP!!!!! :P

I think the only way I can top this to find a way to give the ultimate Parrothead some kind of Buffett birthday. When I say ultimate Parrothead, I really mean it. She (we) own every Jimmy CD, been to numerous show (typically 3 or more shows a year) and more t-shirts, hats, ect.. as we can store in our place.

I want to find some way to see Jimmy in November 07 and the untimate would be a personal brithday wish from Jimmy. I know this is close to impossible but ideas from you all can get me started in this direction. So HEY PARROTHEADS, HELP!!!!! Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. I know that Parrotheads are the greatest people on the planet and some of the most creative too. I'll be checking this regularly (hoping my wife does not see this post).

Thank you all in advance for your creative advise!

I will be contacting some of you to get more details on your suggestions as we have never been to the Keys. You know, that's really odd too because we've been all over the caribbean 8) but never to MOTMs or the Keys. That will all change in November.

I am also working up some letters with some photos to send to Margaritaville in KW and NO. You just never know...

Thank you all so much...

Not that I wouldn't like even more imput. This is GREAT! It's almost so good that I want my wife to read it but NOOOOOOO!... I'm going to do my best to make some of this a surprise. :o

Hi all,
I've been reading over Mom's shoulder and some of the Emails that have been going back and forth and I want to say something for myself. Ahem, here goes. Please don't even consider anything for Father's day. I have my Father's Day all year long. Nothing has to be done in this period of heavy activities. I am so proud of all of you, that there is nothing out of the ordinary that has to be done. I have the best family in the world. Sometime in the days ahead just say,"Happy Day Dad" and that will suffice, OK?
Thanks for being my Family!!

And while we're talking about fathers, I have a message for mine-
DAD:
The sacrifices you made for us kids, the blood, sweat, toil, & tears you shed for all of us was just the tip of the iceberg of the dynamite, loving man you are. You ARE my hero, my beacon, my moral compass, and my guiding light.
For better or worse, you made me the man I am, and I thank you for the greatest gift any father could give any child, and that is the gift you gave us when showing us that true, pure happiness comes from virtuous living.
To say thank you is not enough.
To give you all the love, respect, and gratitude you deserve is not too much.
For this and so much more, for being the best father ever, and an even greater human being who is a shining example to all who love you, you can definately be forgiven for making me a Cubs fan.

The message board had topics but it was plain text and was still the best place to get Buffett info. I remember there being folders on the left side of the page that broke each topic into sections.

One thing I remember vividly was usernames were not required back then, anyone could post under anyname they wanted. :o

Later in 2001, we organized the first ever Buffettnews preconcert gathering @ Mo's in NYC for the 9.11 show without BN that would have never happened..

I first found BN as a link on RM.com in late 2004 after the Jones Beach concert. I started reading and lurking and finally took the plunge in March 2005. One of the best parts about BN IMO is that it really opens you up to different people and you witness lifestyles (for lack of a better word) that you would never see if you stayed in one spot your entire life. Thank you for all the great times that I have had because of BN (see above). It truly is THE best Buffett site on the net, and I know it's only going to get better. Thank you for all of your hard work to make this place as awesome as it is.
maufro wrote:I need to add a couple of years to what is listed as my ophicial membership, so I'm going to place it around 8 years.

First experiences were the use of the ticket trade forum and scoring 2 pairs each from a different person for the Raleigh Beach House Tour and winding up with only 8 or 9 seats between them. We were side by side for the show with he cooperation of our row mates.

Thanks for creating a community, virtual as it may be, that truly embodies the true meaning - good people with a commonality that goes deeper than a few songs (and drinks of course).

Little did I know what a Buffett parking lot looked like! Somehow, by sheer luck, I found the Buffett News gang, and they took good care of me. Someone had made name beads for all the BN PHlock, and I treasure mine dearly. Somehow, the BNers didn't twig to the fact I was a "virgin" and didn't subject me to any arcane rituals. They just fed me cheeseburgers, margaritas and beer and adopted me! Even gave me a ride back to the city after the concert. And one nice man offered me the extra bed in his hotel room.
Since then, I have been to concerts in Las Vegas and Tampa, and a phlocking in New Oreans ("before") and a Topless Phlocking, too. And I check BN every day, for news of JB and my phriends.... my Real Fake Friends. I have exchanged Christmas presents with total strangers for 4 years now!

My friends at home have figured out that parrots and JB music are good presents. One friend threw me a Parrothead birthday party. And my brother wrote me a happy birthday song, to the Margaritaville tune.

So, Jim, by creating BN, you have changed my life. I have a great hobby now, and some really fine fake PHriends, some of whom I've met and some not. I hope to meet you at a phlocking one day, too!

Thanks so much!

I am a relative newby to the Buffett world, experiencing my first concert on 8-10-06 and joining BN last fall (although I have been following the Parrothead lifestyle all my life).

I don't think there has been a day that's gone by since I joined that I HAVEN'T surfed over to BN - whether it's to check on a setlist, find out about concert tailgating, or to hang out with my Parrothead friends while listening to JB on Radio Margaritaville (my favorite).

The Parrothead nation is truly a special group of people and I am honored to be considered "one of them". Jim, you have created a place where, no matter where we reside in the world and no matter what the weather is like outside, we can hang out on a virtual beach together. The sun is always shining and it's always 85 degrees at Buffetnews.com!

Keep up the terrific work and, again, THANK YOU.

Happy 10th Jim! And thank you so much for all you've done, for all of us!

I've only been around for half of it's existance, but it's been a fulfilling part of my life from the 1st day I jumped in.

It's a place where people share and care...
It's a place where friendships begin and blossom...
It's a place where we join together and contribute to wonderful causes...
It's a place where you meet people for the 1st time and it feels like you've known them your whole life...
It's a place to celebrate all of the happy feelings that Jimmy provides in countless ways... and to discover new music, new places, new things...
It's the place to find what Jimmy and the CRB is up to lately...
It's the place to find out what all Jimmy and the CRB has done...
It's the place to find out what Jimmy and the CRB has on the horizon...
It's the place to find people to enjoy Jimmy Buffett concerts with, whether you have tickets or not...
It's the place for everything Jimmy...

Many, many memorable BN moments... the elation when Jimmy and Alan won the CMA for "Five O'Clock Somewhere"; the hype and hoopla for so many facets of the release of the "License to Chill" album; the buzz from so many of us across the country enjoying the "Coastal Confessions" book discussion of "A Salty Piece of Land"; discovering the answer to "who are the balcony girls"; mermaidindisguise winning the RM Ultimate Parrothead contest; Dawgfan winning the RM trip to Anguilla; the Phruitcakes in the Kitchen cookbooks; the Buffettfests; and the many amazing and thrilling stories about parrotheads and Jimmy.

I'm grateful for the friends BN has brought into my life... I'm grateful for the trips I've taken to enjoy life with those friends.

Proud to be a BuffettNewser!! :D
SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Congrats, Jim, and thanks again.

I found BN while sitting alone in a hotel room in Maryland, 4 months after 9/11, pulled back onto active duty and several hundred miles from my family. That first weekend posting, tickets went on sale for the Feb 2002 Florida shows. I bought tickets and got help with where to stay in FLL, etc.

But on Monday morning, I was told to get home and re-pack; I was leaving for the Middle East. My tickets for those FL shows were sold at face through the ticket exchange and my new "phamily" kept my spirits up while I was away.

Two best memories: First, Posting on the set list thread at 3:00AM local time from the FSOTW while listening to the FSOTW tour on a 24Kb hotel dial-up that cost 50 cents per MINUTE. Until I got back I never realized that it's normally impossible to listen to RM on a 24Kb dial-up, never mind post at the same time.... :o

Second, the day The Box arrived in the Middle East.... I had never met any of you. Most people I only knew by screen names. But PHAW engineered a box full of cards, books, pictures, CDs, etc, etc.... My buddies made fun of my "Parrothead thing" until the day The Box arrived..... "You never met any of these people?" "Nope." "Wow..." I still tear up thinking of opening up that box...

We're a family.... We laugh together, cry together, share the joy and divide the sorry. We pray for each other in bad times and rejoice in good times. We've added children and grandchildren to the phlock and grieved over lost loved ones. Sure, we scratch at each other sometimes, just like any family. But when it counts, we stick together.

And along the way, we've made many, many wonderful memories all over this country and in couple of foreign countries, and have established life long friendships that will be with us long after Mr. Buffett plays Margaritaville for the last time.

Without BN, none of this would have happened. I cannot even express my gratitude, Jim, for the blessings this website has brought into my life.

I picked APL@40, b/c that's what I'm so excited about right now ... with the seguay into Redemption Song.

Another time or place and it could easily have been Nautical Wheelers, Tryin' to Reason, Tin Cup, Presents to Send You, Migration, Tire Swing ...

AAAARRRRRRR. had to go with Nautical Wheelers, although I love APLAF, as well as many others on this album I think that whenever Nautical Wheelers comes on it gets me the most excited, or its the cong that i enjoy most when i hear it. if i had this much trouble with a question concerning favorite songs.....oh boy :D

After going back and forth between "Migration," "APLAF," "Tin Cup," "Nautical Wheelers," etc., I went with "Migration." The image of an African parakeet sitting on his shoulder, teaching the bird how to fuss, teaching him how to cuss and pull a cork out of a bottle of wine is a visual that I think is classic Jimmy! :D

a lot of the songs I love best are because of one or two lines that have crept in to my vocabulary......

What are your Buffettisms?

For me....I talked about doing the 'Desperation Samba' whenever we're close to a deadline for something.....getting ready for vacay, Christmas shopping, or something like that......

My daughter and I often comment that "There's no dumbass vaccine" when we see stupid people........so we say that a lot.

My son is looking for an apartment (can I get a HALLELUJAH)....and I found myself singing to him...."I'd like to be a jellyfish, cuz jellyfish don't pay rent...." Now I call him the jellyfish....cuz he ain't been paying rent!!

In 1995, my only sister, and best friend, passed away. She was only 38.

She had moved to Fernandina a few months after I did....we had always lived close to one another....She fell in love with the island as much as I did...and said it, not Charleston , would always remain "home" to her....and she loved this song.

When she died...we had a celebration of her life.....and all she loved.

This is the song that was played.....and also another friend of ours played it for us later, at the beach...when we took her ashes down there..

We flew in a bi plane...3 of us. The pilot, her widower, and me....

Another small plane flew ahead of us with a banner saying "We Love You, Fran"...

He did two flyovers first.....

and it was our turn and we were throwing her ashes out of the plane over her favorite spot on the beach.....

There was a group of our friends on the shore, and a minister doing a reading...

It had been raining earlier in the day....

As we put her out to Sea....the other pilot said they were in vortex, under the wing of the biplane, and just circled for a while before falling to sea...

A double rainbow came out....and I looked down at the water...and there were over 20 dolphins jumping in the spot right below us.....My daughter was 9 at the time, and she was right at the waters edge....She saw this and ran to the other people and said.....

"Y'all! Come Quick! The dolphins have come to greet Aunt Fran!"

It was amazing and so right.....

The Rainbows...and the Ocean...The dolphins....and Fran.

I miss you Frannie....

all the time.

and THAT is why that is my favorite song on the album...

Okay, phriends, I have some happy Buffett news to share.

One of my keets has some learning issues, not enough to qualify for "services" or an individualized education plan, so that pretty much means mom has to be his advocate and explain over and over what he's up against. We start school really early in our tiny town, so our open house is this week and I've been very nervous about his placement this year. The right teacher makes or breaks the year for him!

After a week of no returned calls from the person I think I'm supposed to be talking to, I'm told by a friend that I actually need to be talking to someone else. I call the person "really" need to talk to, she takes my call, turns out she's the familiar face from two seats down at the Buffett concert this year, she remembers me, knows my son, assures me she'll follow up on his placement. Then, she takes the time to phone me 30 minutes later to let me know everything's in place for him to have a "great year."

I love being a parrrothead!!!
