Ok, I am glad that I am home by myself right now, because otherwise my husband and son would be wondering why on earth I am sitting in front of the computer crying.......
There are some greats posts here, as well as some sad. Though I relate to them 100%.
Music is so powerful to me, and such a huge part of my life. I can remember being in Toronto last year, and there are a few songs
that Jimmy sang that made me cry. And there are a few songs that
I still can not make it to the end without tearing up.
Sometimes I think we have emotions that are so powerful that we arent sure how to deal with them, or how to even explain them to someone else to reach out for help. Then you hear a new or old Buffett song, and then all of the sudden you have this lightbulb sort of moment.
You have your, ahhh, now it all makes sense moment. Actual words that describe something that has happened or is happening in your life so that it makes sense. And it gives you the sense that it will all be ok.
A few years back, I went through tough time, after tough time, after tough time. I lost my grandmother is November of 2004, my uncle in May of 2005, my Mom died in September of 2005, my favorite dog two months after that, and then my grandfather in April of 2006. During all of this time, I learned what the term "I was beside myself" meant.
The hardest to deal with of course, was my Mom. She had kidey failure, and ended up with MRSA and after 6 months of in and out of the hospital, and the last 2 months or so, in the hospital constantly, she died. And there was never really any closure as to what happened. How it happened, we never really had an answer to. She died in the hospital less than two months after her 51st birthday which she celebrated in the hospital.
But I am the oldest of three girls, so I felt like I had to tke care of everyone. And do the things that my Mom always did for the family.
I can say with 100% certainty that Jimmy helped me through SO many bad days. I live now as positively as I possibly can, knowing that is what all of my loved ones would want me to do. Mom, grandma, grandpa..... everyone.
I guess after my rambling, my point is, I wasnt sure that anyone would understand this about me..... I thought that if I ever explained what all of you are explaining -to anyone that I know, that they would think that I am even more insane than they originally had though!
Although I am most comfortable with my craziness, and am too stubborn to ever change, it is nice to see that I am not the only one who has the "understanding" that I do.
I have to say that I am a newbie.... and I try to read up on as many posts as I can, and I have read some wonderful things here. There is so much more to BN than what I had originally thought. I am VERY pleasantly surprised.
Thank you all, and I hope to someday soon know all of you better!!

Only on Buffettnews can you be driving around, lost in Oak Cliff, a suburb of Dallas, trying to find the house your grandparents lived in when you were just a child ... they moved from this house to another when I was about 10, so I never drove there myself ..... I just remembered the street name and that we drove up a big hill and past a convenience store ...
Anyway, back to my story ... only on Buffettnews could you call a friend in
Rhode Island ... who would then use MapQuest to find the street you're looking for, stay on the line and direct you there ... and be as thrilled as you were when you finally found the house ....
SGH: Love you to the moon and back .... you rock.

I know this to be true:
A group of people, most of whom have never met and who have no shared history, come together for the greater good and raise money for charities near and dear to their hearts.
We hear so much bad news these days ... it's good to come here and find out all the good things happening, even though some of them originate from deep, tragic sadness.
I love you all to the moon and back.

I just want to take the time to say that I am so thankful and glad that I stopped lurking, came out of the shadows and decided to jump into the water with all of you. It has seriously changed my life for the better. I feel alone much of the times these days and just knowing I have these connections has really inspired me to push forward and get back into living. I was getting frozen in one spot and I really needed a road map to get out. You all have been that and more. I don't get on and post everyday BUT, I do think of you all everyday. Whether we have talked here or not, I read most everything and I find myself wondering how your days are going even though I may not be online. You inspire me. When I was mowing the lawn yesterday, I had to smile as I recalled our recent lawn discussion. The healthy living thread has made me stick to my exercise this time. Thanks to Longboard, I am starting to be able to walk with less pain everyday and enjoy walking around barefoot again. (After having extreme pain for about a year now) Another thread has reignited my passion for my photography. It's all good. I know this is a long post but I wanted to say it and post it here as this is where I hang most times. I am thrilled to know I no longer have to freak out about finding someone to go see Buffett with every year. I am fairly bummed that I won't be able to make it to the Mac show or hang at the hotels, etc. and get to know you all alittle better. I am enjoying sharing all the experiences thru your words and travels. Thanks to all my friends.....it's nice to have you all here. Peace

I wrote this last night and thought this would be a good place to stick it!
Ten Things in Life I’ve Learned From Jimmy Buffett Songs
We all learn certain lessons in life. Some of them come from our family, friends, or our teachers in school. Others come from musical artists. Over the years, I have become a huge “parrothead,” a fan of Jimmy Buffett’s music for those who don’t know. It is total escapism. Jimmy Buffett sings about the things most people dream about but never attain.
Escaping to the mythical Margaritaville sipping boat drinks with the belief that it is five o’clock somewhere, helps me get through even the most trying day. That’s why ten of the most important things in my life have been learned from the lyrics of a Jimmy Buffett song.
10. Billy Clyde wasn't insane! In fact, he sold everything and moved to the islands to live his dream.
9. Tonight I just need my guitar. Sometimes, it is the simple things that get us through the tough times.
8. Someday I will. Everyone can reach their dreams.
7. Breathe in, Breathe out, Move on. No matter how bad the situation is, I can get through it.
6. Life is just a tire swing. Keeping that child-like mindset keeps us young.
5. Come Monday, it'll be alright. Looking forward to a better day helps me get through the tough ones.
4. Incommunicado. Sometimes, it is best to just disappear and rest without the phone, television, or internet.
3. If we couldn't laugh, we'd all go insane. Laughter is the best medicine.
2. Yes I am a pirate, 200 years too late. There are those of us who might have been more suited to a different frame of time.
1. Some of it's magic, some of it's tragic, but I've had a good life all the way. Regardless of what happens, look back on everything as part of what makes you who you are and cherish the memories whether good or bad.
Not everyone appreciates or understands the musing of a sixty-something beach bum, but I believe there is a lot that can be learned by listening to these lyrics. After all, he has made a very successful career doing what he loves and helping those of us toiling away at our jobs find an escape. Grab a margarita and a cheeseburger, sit back, and listen. It creates a sense of peace only found in that One Particular Harbor.

I would have said yes, but any true PH knows that "Parrothead" is one word unless "Parrothead" translated into Australian is "Parrot Head." If that's the case, I withdraw my statemtent.
I suppose your club could have something to do with "parrot head."

If "Parrothead" is one word, wouldn't it just be abbreviated "P"?

Not necessarily. The Long Island Railroad is abbreviated as LIRR, not LIR.
According to

How long have you been a Parrothead?

beachbum13 wrote:Since I'm new here I was wondering how long people here have been Parrotheads?
I discovered Buffett in Coconut Grove FL at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival in the late seventies. After coming home I bought "You Had To Be There" and I was hooked.
My brother heard me play the album and shared with me his library of Buffett albums which I quickly taped on to cassettes. It was one of the first times my brothers and I connected musically.
I will never forget the first time I heard "The Captain and The Kid". My grandfather was dying and it was one of the first times a song "touched" me. Coming from a family of sailors "Son of a Sailor" hit home too!

Really stuck when I saw him open for The Eagles in '77 - the summer of Margaritaville. Timothy B. Schmidt of The Eagles dubbed us Parrotheads at that time - so the story goes.
Barefoot Gypsy wrote:Snowparrot wrote:I answered 2000-2005 because that's when I discovered RM (like, when it started, eh?) and BN and the existence of Parrotheads.
Before that, Jimmy Buffett was someone whose music I knew vaguely (Come Monday, Changes in Latitudes, Margaritaville) from when it was new, and whose books I had read (Tales from M'ville, and the other one from that era).
I'd known his music a long time, and loved what I knew, but wasn't a fan, let alone a phan!
In the summer of 2003, I started lurking, then I joined the phlock here and went to my first concert, where I met a number of BNers, and decided I'd be roosting here for a while.
Glad to know someone who is an regular here in my phan frame. Being part of this group has really added to my enjoyment. I have no club close by and haven't been able to get to meetings. With my 3 sons it is a major event just to arrange my concert going with them...once a year.

I don't own a grass skirt but I do post on this board and own most, if not all, of his studio albums. Everyone can draw their own conclusions and when the vote is tallied, let me know if I'm in.

Jimmys new chair. Need suggestions from fellow Parrotheads

I am not being paid to say this by any means but I have to say I am Totally blown away by the quality of some of their items they have sent me. Floored really. First of all congratulations on getting assigned this task.
Also thanks for asking our opinions. I'm sure we all appreciate the opportunity to share our creativity with you on this project.
Here are some of my ideas.
It should have a cool ParrotHead license plate!!
A margarita glass holder
A Landshark Lager holder
a Parrot perch
a place for storage of flip flops, grass skirts etc.
A control panel that resembls that of an airplane.
Let me know what you think. I hope these are helpful to you. I can't wait to see the chair when it is at the Pittsburgh show!!
I still need to check out your website. It will probably inspire more ideas.
C-Dawg wrote:I think you should make it look like an old Woody, with the surfboard and guitar on roof rack (think Flintstone mobile for basic outline- roof coming off back with entire front exposed) .
Behind the seat you'd have a Foreman type grill (made to look like a real grill) and beside it the blender and margarita dispenser (beneath the grill and dispenser have a insulated well that is full of margaritas that the dispensers draws from). The foot rest would open to have a cooler full of Landshark. Of course being a old Woody, it'll need "license to chill license plates.
Look forward to seeing your end result. Keep us posted on your progress.
Armchair Cruisers wrote:LOL.. Thanks again for those ideas. I would love to put a hulla girl on it! I will see if I can get some of these ideas approved.
There has already been discussion of giving it away at the end of the tour to a very lucky fan. I dont know if it will happen but I hope so!!
I have taken some of your ideas to my Partner, Ferg, to digest as cosmetics are really his department. He digs alot of them. Ferg is cool. Great craftsman. Build is coming along nicely. Few snags here and there but to be expected.
Flip flop compartment, Parrot perch a must. Its tough to strike a balance of quality, fun, and advertising in a frankenstein like this. Thats why I am here to fill in the edges and I thank you all for your input. More to come as the days pass.

I own a company called Armchair Cruisers. This chair while owned by Jimmy but is really for the parrotheads like ourselves. What does a parrothead look for in a motorized chair that happens to dispense margaritas, has built in blenders, sirius sound system, umbrella and cooler? I need some ideas for some BLING. If you can think of anything mandatory that a motorized lounger should have, please post it here or email me. Its kinda tiki themed and should be an eye catcher. It goes on tour in may so we will miss the first couple of shows. A good idea may find its way onto the chair and you will have the satisfaction of contributing to something completely absurd!! If you happen to catch this thing cruising around, you might just get yourself a free margarita. Freshly made!!
I am not being paid to say this by any means but I have to say I am Totally blown away by the quality of some of their items they have sent me. Floored really. They sent me a limited edition blender that is absolutely a piece of art. I could go on and on but other things but that blender is just unbelievable. Who goes nuts about an appliance? well, I do when it looks that cool. I must have looked at it for 10 minutes straight. Pictures will not do it justice.
To get an idea about what it will look like, you can google Armchair Cruisers to kinda get a flavor for what we do. Your imput is important as this truely is for the fans.
Thanks... Dan
Well....Since you asked....
Hasta have a ship's wheel for steering.....
Hasta have a couple of bullet holes up front by the nose....
And ..Yeah....Amphibious floats.....
Like the ships wheel for steering. COOL !! Your the first one of us who thought about the bullet holes for that Jamaica Mistaca tie in. Love it.
Can't wait to see this new creation.
What a great time to be a Parrothead
Don't forget Throttle levers for the gearshift and gas...."Full Speed Ahead"!!!!!!!

The chair sounds great. Am looking forward to seeing your posts updating us on the building process.
FINS UP
Nope... not a clue and no signs of an actual bite. Still a mystery. Feeling better each day.
I cant thank everyone enough for the kind words though! I really wish I could put all the great ideas that have come up into the chair. You have forced me to rethink some of my thoughts and thats what this post was intended to do.
With that said, I have to mostly adhere to what corp. has laid out for me on this chair, with some exceptions voiced here. BUT I believe there will be oportunities to include some of these awesome crowd pleasers on future rides.
I just want you guys to know that I think you guys rock and I am so glad you have such a nice friendly place to hang out with eachother and yet make a Newbie like me feel welcome. Godspeed to you folks in all you do!!!
Pics are coming soon. Teasers...... at first!!!

Thanks again, I want you to know that I am now a fixture here. For two reasons. One the great company. Two... LOL, so I can find out from you fans who see my Frankenstein cruising on tour and let me know what you like about it and Hate about it. Its a rare opportunity to see what other peeps think about it going on tour per se.
Just a little insight. I spent the last two days, shining the frame and grinding the welds. The frame now appears to be chrome! Very cool looking. Now here is the kicker... It will be painted and you will never see 95 percent of it. Who cares how nice a weld looks on the bottom of a frame mount under the chair? Well... I do. I shouldnt. My build team shouldnt,, but we do. My wife and Fergs wife, Pat actually did alot of work. Go Girl POWER. They ground and polished actually more than I did, By FAR!!..
Nothing sexier than a blond and a welding helmet throwing sparks. I cant thank them enough. My wife once said to me after watching me operate my new sewing machine, " I dont know what it is about watching you sew.... but it kinda turns me on!!" I laughed for a long time about it. But after watching them, I kinda get it. Oh,, and Yes I do most of the upholstery work myself. Two years ago I didnt know a thing about a sewing machine. Now I know too much. More than I want to. I had to teach myself how to. I needed to know so I could show others. I didnt want to know. Still dont. As a matter of fact.. Ive had to learn about 1000 things I dont want to know to do these projects..... Yada yada yada.. Sometimes I ramble.
Sorry... pics coming soon.. have not had time to download them. I will get them up as soon as I can.
Hope everyone had a good weekend. I did as I am feeling better.

then stopped next to the Margaritaville food bus for photo ops. You could get your picture taken with it, but not on it. The other picture is the Rock Star cart, where you can play the game and they shoot video of you. I only saw that one near the gates.
I still think Jimmy should take the stage in the chair.

Thank You!! Means alot to us.
Gotta share my detroit story with you. Never been to a JB concert. EVER. VIRGIN. Got invited to detroit from Margaritaville to see the chair in action, view the crowd, and while there, check out a reboot sequence the chair. Software related, I was sure. Every fifteen minutes or so chair would shut down for 3 seconds and turn back on. Odd and remotely annoying. We can fix that. NO problem.
This is going to be kinda fun. 5 hour drive but worth it. I was sure. Ferg and I lit out about 4 am loaded for bear. We had complete drive systems, specialty tools, this problem was licked. We at the show at 10 am. Ghost town. Nobody there except few security guys. Shortly after the bus arrived with the chair.
I checked the software and it was gooood. My heart sunk. OH NO. After about an hour of sheer terror, it turned out to be a bad patch cable to the control module. sheeeewww.
During final assembly, A non descript tour bus pulls up along side our staging area. This was a serious bus. Made by the most expensive coach maker out there. It was beautiful. They sat there and watched us for some 10 minutes or so. Nobody got in or out. Windows were smoked but there was stirring inside. I wondered if it was "him."
Then i realized how completely
retarded I was for even thinking for those brief moments he DIDNT HAVE SOMETHING BETTER TO DO. Watching me work is a bit like watching paint dry without the fumes for the pay off!! I prolly will never know if it was him or not. By the time I am eighty, that story will have morphed into Me, Ferg, Jb and Lonnie Anderson had breakfest and drank margaritas all day.
By now the crowds were showing up in droves. I thought aliens had landed. WoW! I never knew. How could I?
Ferg and I were blown away at the intensity of everyones passion. It was a Party. The colors, the costumes, the grass skirts.... The legs... it was awesome. Margaritaville treated us with red carpet. Food, drinks, the people, Just awesome. We stayed all day and quietly walked the crowds following the chair. We wore no badges. No hats. Gave out no cards. We gave no indication to anyone that we were associated with the chair. We just wanted to watch the people. A couple people did ask and we did tell them we built it, but most had no idea. It was cool. I saw hundreds of people get there picture taken with it and I have to say, that was pretty flattering. It was a great feeling. Even if it was a private moment. People dug it. Relief!
The concert was starting and one of the Margaritaville Big bosses offered Ferg and I some VIP tickets to the concert. For the second time that day, my heart sunk. I knew I could not stay. It was a huge drive back and I had to be up and moving again at about 4 am in indiana. UGGGGHH.
We thanked our hosts and quietly left as we came. Jb singing in the background. Your odd art proudly displayed on the jumbo tron later that evening, and we had to leave. Even without the concert. That trip was wayyyyyyyyyy worth it. I had a great time. Met some really cool people and had some landshark. (ferg drove). A memory from a virgin who maybe is still a virgin without the concert, but I was at least, seriously MOLESTED !!! Thanks for everyones kindness. Hope to see you in chicago!!!
