I was frequenting our local establishment last weekend and went to play some Jimmy on the digital jukebox and , to my amazement, all the Jimmy had been removed. When I asked the owner what happened, he told me a bunch of artist, including Jimmy, had requested that their music be removed from jukeboxes around the country. Anybody know what the deal is??

I don't know.... sounds odd. I can think of 2 bars in town that have jukeboxes..they both still have Jimmy last time I looked.... But its been awhile..... Does your establishment have satellite radio at least?coopster1 wrote: When I asked the owner what happened, he told me a bunch of artist, including Jimmy, had requested that their music be removed from jukeboxes around the country. Re: No more jukebox Jimmy?!
best bet: an issue over the payments for use of the music vs. the cost of the "link to the satellite library" charged.coopster1 wrote:Good Day All!

It has to do with the digital satellite jukeboxes. Not the old-fashioned type, where they play a CD. It has to do with the rights to broadcast the music on these vs. Sirius vs. XM.
At one point, CIP thought they might have to pull JB music out of the jukeboxes.....since JB was no longer involved with the company. Before it became an issue, they just took out the jukeboxes!

It's a true shame
I have found and bought many a CD becuase of hearing it on the jukebox and being able to see the CD it was on so that I could purchase it. To me the Benefits this creates for an Artist should be embraced and not shunned as they are doing. Taking away any avenue which can lead to sales is short sighted and part of the problem facing this industry. In the interest of pennies, they will miss out on the dollars this stream can bring them.
At the same time for an artist like Jimmy to do this, especially with the battle he has had over the years just to get his songs on the Radio, is taking away an avenue that I have seen personally bring more fans into his following.

Money goes to Artist though these Machines
This "Jukebox" tracks and Bills the machine holder "the Bar or Restaurant" monthly for the songs played. Many establishments do away with them as they get bills for several hundred dollars a month or even more. The generally makes a little money with them, but it get's clouded by the monthly checks they need to cut to pay for it. Many revert to a CD Changer and throw some discs into it.

I wondered how that worked.....Some songs are already on there and are only 1 credit....but if it has to be downloaded, it's 2.....and they pay for the usage...ok, got it...

jimmy is gone from the digital juke at the bar i work at.
We have a rep from the jukebox company that comes around and take the money out, leaves our cut, and tkaes the rest. we never see the costs on downloads or artist payments.
Beatles have never been in there and jimmy is gone about a month now.
