Guilty Pleasure .... Kid's Radio

Post by surfpirate »

One of the joys of having young elementary school age 'keets is having a built-in excuse to to play with toys, watch cartoons and pretend that you are doing it 'for the kids'.

Lately I've caught myself listening to XM Kids on the radio even when I'm driving around without the kids in the car. I assume Sirius Radio has something similiar. I catch myself singing along and listening to Kenny Curtis' Animal Farm in the morning driving to work. It's aimed at kids age 3-8 or so (and apparently also at 47 year old surfer dads too). A lot more fun than listening to the world news on my way to work.
:D :D :D
Of course the most embarassing thing I ever did was listen to 70s radio one day on my way to work. The last song I heard before I went into the office got stuck in my head and I absent mindedly was humming it in the elevator before I realized everyone was staring at me.

XM's kid station is much better than Sirius' kids programming.

Check out Dan Zanes and Friends. Dan used to be in the rock band the Del Fuegos back in the 80's, but now he makes family music. It's great stuff for kids and parents. We love it in our house!

Dan is good but Ralph Covert (Ralph's World) is much better - also from a rock band, The Bad Examples  We've seen him here 3 times in concert (saw Dan once) and each time has been during the day at a bar - great place - kids sing and dance and the parents drink. Very nice guy too - the kids love going to see him.

My friend's kids really like Laurie Berkner - and she's not too bad for parents to listen to either. I think Uncle Jim has Lonely Broccoli & some other songs on XM Kids too.
