I think it depends on the venue. At Camden, there will be a lot of Philly fans. And they have been known to boo Santa Claus & the Easter Bunny
so what do you think
I didn't like Clint Black at a Buffett show, don't wanna see Chesney at a Buffett show! I want Buffett at Buffett shows! I won't boo, its potty time!

so what do you think

I asked this question for the reason that Kenny Chesney is playing a show in Hartford, CT one day apart of Jimmy playing at Gillette
Both shows at Greatwoods in June
Seattle and Vegas in October
Girlfriend doesn't realize that shes going to be a parrothead by the end of this summer whether she likes it or not.

Now even I don't think he's 'copying'...he likes the 'JB' vibe....he's going to want to include it into his music/show and I don't blame him.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Perfectly fair.
Likewise (in reverse, I guess) I dislike some the implication (not by you, but by others) that if you're a JB fan you should hate KC for "copying"...
to each their own, I say.... that's the beauty of music!

I don't think he is either. I agree with you and don't blame him at all.Soraya wrote:Now even I don't think he's 'copying'...he likes the 'JB' vibe....he's going to want to include it into his music/show and I don't blame him.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Perfectly fair.

But there are those around here who think KC is just a JB wanna-be....

too many people have preconceived notions that all KC sings about is a sexy tractor, when he himself called it one the silliest songs he's ever done.
the fact of the matter is, you don't have to compare KC to JB. both are completely different and very talented musicians. does some of KC's music sound like JB? maybe so. but when did buffett get the sole rights to singing about a friggin' beach? i must have missed that.
you can't blame a guy for singing about his new favorite way to spend time -- in a warm climate. KC loves the beach scene like the rest of us, and has more talent than the rest of us to sing about it.
so what if you don't like it?
KC and JB would be a helluva show, despite the protests from closed-minded BN'ers who feel that KC is doing nothing but imitating sir Buffett.
the stage production of each is incredible, and i'd be the first in line to buy a ticket.

i agree that one or two songs would be accetable for the majority(not meToplessRideFL wrote:to answer your question.... 1 or 2 songs would be acceptable. Like him or not...the man found a niche and is running with it.... good for him... but no more than a couple of songs......

) but i think saying kenny chesney has found a niche is a bit off. seems to me he's found jimmy's niche and brought his country people over with him. he is running with it though, for me it sounds pretty stupid. but i just dont like country

Saw KC for the first time last year and the energy and overall energy he brings in concert was surprising.
Going to see him next week in Greensboro and look forward to it. Going to tailgate and have a good time
Don't think fans would boo KC, as that's not the spirit of a Buffett show and KC would not be the first guest appearance on stage.
For those who knock KC for treading on JB's niche....Imitation is the biggest form of flattery
Also, how many artists in the pre-Sirius Radio Margaritaville are doing the same thing. And RM was better late at night when you were exposed to smaller named artists and there songs.
I enjoy other artists in the Island niche, just as I enjoy JB covering other artists's songs

I wonder if they have similar discussions in the Beach Boys forums...
I certainly respect everyone's opinion to choose whether they like Country Music or not, but to suggest that Jimmy Buffett has some sort of copyright on Beach music is nuts.
For those of you that don't like country, JB does a lot of country songs...some of them are favorites here....
songs like....Come Monday, Margaritaville (RIP), Nautical Wheelers, SOASOAS, Coast of Carolina, (and some recent covers...e.g., Bama Breeze & Trip Around the Sun) to name a few...
All I'm trying to say is that JB isn't the first to play beach music, he plays country music along with the wide variety of other styles of music he plays, and to recognize that.
I remember when I realized that The Eagles played country music...
That's when I decided there's more to country than meets the eye.

yea i agree with the beach music copyright thing, i think that is pretty rediculous to argue, but i think my major problem with the whole kenny chesney thing is that yes KC is moving into the tropical, but JB is now being classified as country becasue of KC and other artists like this....Dezdmona wrote:

by the way im not entirely sure how the songs you listed are country...well coast of carolina(basically anything off the last two ablums) but CM, Margaritaville, Nautical Wheelers, Son of a Son all ahave disticnt tropical beach sounds. i guess taking w/o the music the lyrics could be kinda country. i suppose i just dont see it

I don't think it would be a good show and not because I'm closed-minded and think Chesney's a wannabe. I'll admit I don't know his music as well as I know Buffett's and some other performers but what I've heard I don't particularly care for and I think he has a whiny, nasal sounding voice. I've seen him perform live twice, not a full concert but on a stage out in the street in midtown Manhattan on Good Morning America. I think he's a lightweight. If he ever did a concert with Buffett, I won't be anywhere near the ticket line.indymiller24 wrote:KC and JB would be a helluva show, despite the protests from closed-minded BN'ers who feel that KC is doing nothing but imitating sir Buffett.

I've seen KC do two full shows. I don't think the GMA venue/stage does him justice. He puts on an outstanding, high energy show that probably translates poorly to the GMA venue. If you don't like his music there's no reason to imagine you'd like his show, but imho he's an outstanding entertainer and puts on one hell of a show.... I felt I got my money's worth.LIPH wrote:I don't think it would be a good show and not because I'm closed-minded and think Chesney's a wannabe.
