Just reported, CBS has cancelled his radio show effective immediately.

Political correctness has gotten completely out of control. He was absolutely wrong to say what he did but the apology and a suspension should have been enough. Yes, he's a wise ass, he's been a wise ass for decades, why are the sponsors who are falling all over each other to pull out surprised?
And the only reason Sharpton made such a big deal out of it is that his name hadn't been in the paper enough lately to suit him.
Al Sharpton, arbiter of taste, great.

The Things he does for Charity out measures one stupid comment....What he does for the Tomorrows Children Hospital...Donating time and Money..Plus the Imus Range......Those are the real losers ..The Kids and the charities!!....What happened to forgivness....didn't we just finish with the lenting season.......and did you notice..who is in the background with Sharpton...Jesse...These are the same 2 guys who still think OJ isn't guilty!!!ScarletB wrote:Political correctness has gotten completely out of control. Actually I was watching that apology and I was like "OK stop now, you're rambling" But nonetheless this got WAY out of handSharkOnLand wrote:![]()
I think he apologized TOO much. He kept apologizing, and keeping it in the news.
Granted, it was bad judgement to say what he said, but firing him just shows how far political correctness has gone in this country.

By 3 p.m., $1.3 million had been raised for three children's charities, an associate producer at the station said. Volunteers were getting about 200 more pledges per hour than they did last year, with most callers expressing support for Imus, said Tony Gonzalez, supervisor of the Radiothon phone bank. The event benefited Tomorrows Children's Fund, the CJ Foundation for SIDS and the Imus Ranch

Haven't heard a THING about that on the news have you? How much has Sharpton ever raised to benefit anyone but himself?TommyBahama wrote:By 3 p.m., $1.3 million had been raised for three children's charities, an associate producer at the station said. It funny you should say that.......i was listening to WEEI today......and yes Don Imus is arrogant and stuff like that...but he is extremely popular....but anyways..they were talking about his Charities and the Millions he has raised...and like the Red Sox with the Jimmy Fund...They made the comment on what Minority group has stepped up to sponsor and run a charity of magnitude for a worthy cause...me personally i don't know.....i know a lot donate and have charity events...but national events where millions are raised in a day for Cancer...CF ....heart association ...name it...and for the record i'm not prejudice one bit...i just hate the double !!standardScarletB wrote:Haven't heard a THING about that on the news have you? It absolutely should. No one should ever be able to say anything about anyone.TommyBahama wrote:Forgot about that...maybe that should of been brought up!!!LIPH wrote:Jesse Jackson has a radio show. I heard the head of CBS just say what kind of language this does to young women of color. But Snoop Dogg says it's ok for him to say even worse things.
I think Imus' comments wore very bad, but not as bad as a tenth of the stuff I hear on TV or radio everyday.

I think that maybe those of us (the Northeast) who've maybe been listening to him longer have different feelings about him. Heck, I used to listen to him on the radio driving to COLLEGE and trust me that was a LONG time ago. That was when he was still drinking and doing drugs. And he was abrasive way back then.TommyBahama wrote:It funny you should say that.......i was listening to WEEI today......and yes Don Imus is arrogant and stuff like that...but he is extremely popular....but anyways..they were talking about his Charities and the Millions he has raised...and like the Red Sox with the Jimmy Fund...They made the comment on what Minority group has stepped up to sponsor and run a charity of magnitude for a worthy cause...me personally i don't know.....i know a lot donate and have charity events...but national events where millions are raised in a day for Cancer...CF ....heart association ...name it...and for the record i'm not prejudice one bit...i just hate the double !!standardScarletB wrote:Haven't heard a THING about that on the news have you? Imus apologised...met with Sharpton or came on his show...and wants to meet with the Rutgers Team.......i think that tells a lot on how bad he feels.......it's not like he needs the money..he could just say screw it i apologized and leave it at that!!!......I'm still waiting for OJ to apologize for killing a white women!!

That's what my Dad was talking about. He said if you go back and watch or listen, you would see them ripping into each other more than anyone else.ScarletB wrote: I think that maybe those of us (the Northeast) who've maybe been listening to him longer have different feelings about him. Rob Bartlett, hysterical, calls Deirdre(sp?) the Green Ho.
Terry Bradshaw said when Imus dies he's hitting on his wife.
But that's fine. Hell, I heard Bernard call Hillary, live on MSNBC, a word that can definitely not repeated here.
And not one person said a word about it.
