Where to Live After Retirement
You can Live in New York City where...
1. You say "the city" and expect everyone to know you mean Manhattan.
2. You can get into a four-hour argument about how to get from Columbus Circle to Battery Park, but can't find Wisconsin on a map.
3. You think Central Park is "nature,"
4. You believe that being able to swear at people in their own language makes you multi-lingual.
5. You've worn out a car horn.
6. You think eye contact is an act of aggression.
2. I can find Wisconsin on a map. Probably wouldn't want to go there, but I can find it.
3. There's trees.
4. f*** you![]()
5. I'm smart enough not to drive in NYC
6. I once saw a cartoon in the newspaper that showed a car driving toward the NYC skyline. there was a billboard on the side of the road that said APPROACHING NEW YORK CITY, AVOID ALL EYE CONTACT

Good answers, but why would I retire to a foreign country?
I have considered some: France, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic.... but haven't really thought the USA was possible, although it is closer to home, in that you don't have to fly to get there. Plus, I know lots of nice folks (and pholks) "down there".

Carmel, California, hands down. And I don't even golf...
Amazing beaches and much more beautiful that FL. Great weather year round (instead of half of the year and half of the year 100% humididty while dodging hurricanes. Awesome restaurants. Seeing whales and seals hanging out with you at the beach. Amazing sea food.
3 hours from THE best City in the US - San Francisco. Most of the cultural attractions of NYC without having to hear that annoying accent everywhere you go...Plus you don't have Jersey to your south.
If you have at least $20,000,000 and $4,000,000 for an ocean front cottage, Carmel is THE place to live in my humble opinion.

I don't want to live on that kind of island
No, I don't want to swim in a roped off sea.
Too much for me, too much for me
I've got to be where the wind and the water are free.
