" . . . No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee . . ."

Hello everyone.
I live here in Blacksburg and have witneseed todays events myself and on the tv. At about 10 here, they told all faculty and staff to leave. O my way home, i saw many many police and EMS vehicles rushing around, many with large weapons and SWAT gear. I am horrified to see this happen to my hometown, which was known for its peacefullnes. Not only that, but this is the second time this year a shooting has occured in our small town of Blacksburg, VA. Incluing students, the population here is leass then 35,000. Now they say there are 31 dead. President Bush will speak. I am still in shock that such an event has happened to my beloved hometown and to the Hokie Nation as a whole. My childrens schools were on lockdown today and they were also very frightened. My heart goes out to all the victims and their families.
I can hardly beleive this. Look at the effect Columbine had on the Nation, and this is even worse.

We're just not used to SWAT teams, the FBI and CNN cameras in our town. I am still praying that all of my faculty and student friends are ok.
The coverage of this is truly unbeleivable. My relatives in Rhode Island called, which i thought was normal. But then, my aunts that live all the way in ARGENTINA called to make sure i was ok. Incredible how news spreads in the 21st century world.

CarolinaDreamin and Triathelte - My heart goes out to both of you. This does feel as bad - if not worse - than Columbine. This truly is not only a parent's worse nightmare, but the worst nightmare for friends, families and the community.
Phin power to all of you. Oh - and also to Jill54. I hope that we hear from her soon.

Gracious God,
We come before you this day bewildered and broken at the sight of such violence on the Virginia Tech campus. Lord we do not understand why such things happen, but we trust in your goodness and your grace. Be with the familes and friends of the victims, help them in this time of tragedy and horror. Be with the students, faculty, and staff of Va Tech in the coming days , weeks, and months as they deal with the aftermath of the events today. Lord we pray for the day when all violence will cease and we will all live together in peace in the light of your grace. In you Son's name we pray, Amen.
