I'm sure you're emotionally drained, C.D., but I'm glad your son Chris is okay, although he no doubt has a very heavy heart.
Please know you're in my thoughts, and I hope through all this you can have the presence of mind to stay by your computer and hang out here and let your B.N. friends help get you through this.
Much love to you and Chris.
Please be strong and hang here with us for as long as it takes.

That's the trouble. It takes a little while to send out the e-mails and then some people don't check on a regular basis.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:I don't get this part at all..... I heard it on the news, as well....Carolinadreamin' wrote:What bothers me is that emails about the lockdown didn't go out until almost 2 hours after the first shooting. Chris was in a classroom with a professor that didn't have a clue until Chris asked him to check out the scene outside and he checked his email. It was only then that the class was locked down! Definitely chaos!
GEAUX SAINTS!!! and GEAUX TIGERS!!!
I just got back to my hotel and heard the news via an email from a friend.
This really is such an incredibly tragedy.
To those of you who were nearby, or have loved ones nearby, I am so thankful all of you are safe.
All of us who work at universities and schools know how vulnerable they are in so many ways. It is a terribly sad reality that one of the things that happened in my new job was a lockdown drill in case of something like this.
What an incredible tragedy.

As you could probably tell by that press conference here is still much confusion going on. President Steager, who is my next door neighbor, was unclear and the Cheif of Police even contradicged himself. I called one of my friends who is a proffesor in the Engineereing B uilngind, where this man whent, and hank god he was ok. STill reeling and trying to help the REd Cross and campus ministries as much as possible.
And the worst part? The biggest news that had come out of Blacksburg since today was that GirLs Gone Wild is going to film here on Friday (or at least was).
A lot of people were mad about that. But now i doubt this will happen.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who went through this horrific event today.
I've been home since about 3:30 and it feels like a dream ....

How does someone take a gun and shoot someone..and then shoot someone else..and then 2 hours later shoot another, then another, then another, until you have shot over 50 people.
It wasnt a war situation where you have to disassociate yourself with the situation. Thats just pure hatred for human life that I hope none of us can ever understand.
If you took any kind of weapon and harmed someone, the average person would feel instant remorse...2 hours later you would be purely ashamed of yourself, and in disbelief of what you had done.. but this creature didnt feel anything but more hatred, and then took the punk way out by taking his own life.
I hope the news networks never show his face on tv...he doesnt deserve the exposure, and it will only prompt more psychos to follow.

prayers said again, as the numbers rise. As the mom of three college kids I can only imagine how terrifying this is. I am wondering if, with only a couple weeks left in the semester, they'll send the kids home. There are some who will clearly want to be with their families now.

We come before you this day bewildered and broken at the sight of such violence on the Virginia Tech campus. Lord we do not understand why such things happen, but we trust in your goodness and your grace. Be with the familes and friends of the victims, help them in this time of tragedy and horror. Be with the students, faculty, and staff of Va Tech in the coming days , weeks, and months as they deal with the aftermath of the events today. Lord we pray for the day when all violence will cease and we will all live together in peace in the light of your grace. In you Son's name we pray, Amen.

I wanted Chris to come home tonight...he doesn't want to and I'm trying to understand that he needs to be with his VT family. These are people he has been with for the past 3 years and I need to let him work through (with his VT family) this tragedy. Hopefully he make his way to NOVA in the next week and I can hug him really hard. If he needs me and his Dad to show up...we will.OceanCityGirl wrote:prayers said again, as the numbers rise. I think they will resume classes and finish this semester holding each other up as best they can. I did heard that some kids want to go home and I think that each family needs to do what's best for their child.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

How difficult it must be, but how wise you are, to do what's best for Chris despite how much I know you must want nothing more than to hold him and never let him out of your sight.Carolinadreamin' wrote:I wanted Chris to come home tonight...he doesn't want to and I'm trying to understand that he needs to be with his VT family. A jr. of course will want to be there. His friends will all lean on each other. This experience will be with him forever. He knows how much you love him and that if he needs you you will be there quickly. The main reason I thought they might decide to send the kids home is that alot of the campus will need to be cordoned off for an investigation. Also, some students, esp. Frosh will want to head home and they will need to find ways to treat all the kids equally, no matter their decision.
