MOTM Question

Post by jvman16 »

Hi, I dont post here often but I do read every day. Here is my question:

On Christmas Eve this year THIS pirate will be looking at 40 (and trust me, I dont view this as a good thing, lol lol) My wife has been asking what I want. Is a request for the 2 of us to get down to the MOTM in 2008 a good one?? Is it available to us? we dont belong to any official Parrothead groups. I am lucky enough to sneak away every year to see a Buffett concert and get a couple of days away. I live in New York and have been to PIttsburgh, Florida and a couple of Cincinatti shows (PUTIN BAY is great too) This would cancel that trip next summer, is MOTM worth it?, Ive been to Key West twice and LOVE it. I really dont know much about MOTM, is it in Key West every year? Probably the worst thing about this is it will be just me and my wife, none of our friends are parrotheads and dont go beyond the SYKBH thing. Will it be easy for us to fit in?? Just from concerts alone Im sure the people are extremely friendly and we can find friends to hang with.
Lastly, aside air and hotel is this a very expensive 3 or 4 days??

Any help is gerat, thanks John

most MOTM questions are answered at the ParrotHeads in Paradise website. http://www.phip.com/MOTM.asp

you need to be a member of a parrothead club to register; if none are close - the virtual club is a good alternative: http://www.vphc.com/

you will have friends you haven't even met all over the island during MOTM - don't worry about fitting in!

look for BuffetNews lanyards (get one yourself too! http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=55955) and you will be among pholks you know!

airfare and hotel can be expensive, but time on the island isn't much more costly than any tourist destination.

See you there!

If you want to go to MOTM and go to any of the functions on the grounds of the host hotel (Casa Marina), you have to be registered for the convention. You can only register if you belong to a Parrot Head club. You can go to Key West during MOTM without registering if you don't mind not being able to see any of the shows at the Casa. Last year that meant you would have missed Jerry Jeff Walker, in 2004 you would have missed Jimmy crashing Peter Mayer's Thursday night show.

If you're not registered, you can still go to the Street Festival on Duval Friday afternoon - a lot of the Coral Reefers (Mac, Tina, Utley, Greenidge, the Mayer brothers) are there every year. Jimmy played the Street Festival in 2002. Jim Morris plays in the parking lot of the Hog's Breath Wednesday night every year. Hugo Duarte is usually at the Hog's Breath every night during MOTM. Lots of other places that don't require MOTM credentials have live music every night.

There's enough going on to keep you occupied even if you don't register for the convention, but you will miss some stuff.

I attended the MOTM in 2005, and was not disappointed. It is worth joining a phc (at least the virtual phc), so you can attend the official events. Along with your admission, you also receive a gift bag with some decent stuff in it.
If you decide not to go to the official "meeting", you will not go wrong with the other music on the island. Fingers plays all over the island - with Hugo at Hog's Breath, Don Middlebrook at Conch Republic Seafood Co., along with the Reefers at the Streetfest, and many other locations. He was all over the place.

Welcome to BN, L4F!

If you want a great way to see Greg(Fingers) in Key West; he and KD Moore will be doing two sunset cruises during MOTM again this year. We were on one of them last year, and it was a Great evening!

The online price is over $4 cheaper, is there a 'parrothead' discount, also ?

So.... jvman16, join a parrothead club, do a little charity work, make new friends, register for MOTM 2008 at the first of next year ! You WILL NOT regret it. [smilie=coolup.gif]

Actually, no I don't. Maybe it was the lousy weather last year but other than Jerry Jeff I didn't really think it was worth it.

hmmm. Did not really think the weather the rest of the time was that bad, tho the downpour on Thurs did kinda take some of the novelty out of it.

Absolutely, that's what I keep telling myself when the credit card bills arrive! Looking forward to meeting you guys! Hotel is all booked, just waiting on booking the flight - though I should probably do it sooner rather than later. Getting out of our tiny airport doesn't leave a lot of choices.

We should go the same night, someone pick a night! I dont really care. Usually there is a break between the larger shows on both days Scarlet so it really wouldnt matter. The bands on Thurs and Fri usual start around 8pm ish.
