Requesting Tropical decor help.
It's time for my coffee house exterior to become transformed into a tropical paradise. I am introducing a new tropical drink line this summer. I guess you could say it should look about like a buffett tailgate or a Margaritaville. I could hire Joanee(tikibar), but that's a long commute, so I should build my own. Then comes tiki lights, sharks, parrots, you know, beaches, volcano, Hemisphere dancer the usual. I have a few things only, never been one to go crazy for preparing at tailgates, I just enjoyed everyone elses creations.
The biggest challenge I face at this point is the budget is tight, because I need to invest in the stuff to make the new drinks first. So I am in search of tropical decorations that go a long way. And/or donations of any extra stuff that you are not using anymore.
I am not quite sure why I didn't think of doing this before, its going to be a lot of fun.
I know there are several "build a tiki bar" threads and many others, so if anyone can point me to those, that would be helpful.
Thank you,
I will let you know when we have our kick-off party, It would be great to have a few parrotheads there.

I don't have any extra decorations, but if the time is right could probably be talked into coming down to help you. I have a few tools (good, since I'm named after a handy-man).
I think I'll have tons more ideas after the Dallas show on 4/28. From the plans alone I can tell these Texan hosts know what they're doing. We're going to have a mobile hot tub tralier, all decked out in the tropical style.
When do you plan to have the drinks on the menu?

It might be overlap with stuff you find at Oriental Trading, but here's another 'bulk' store: http://www.smalltoys.com/luau-party-supplies.html

Early summer at the latest. And I will let you know when a work day is coming up. I will start with the tropical decor while I am testing/costing/developing drinks, so that it will create a buzz as to why we are going tropical, then we will announce the drink menu. So am am getting started on that right away.~Hippolyte~ wrote:I don't have any extra decorations, but if the time is right could probably be talked into coming down to help you. I love spending $20 and feeling like I have a haul! Also Big Lots has all kinds of stuff as well. Even CVS is in on the action.... I bought parasol umbrellas there the other day.
They have lots of good stuff

. .to me. . the easiest and most effective way to " get " tropical . . is to paint your place with all the wonderful colors. . especially the pastels. .freddyfishstick wrote:

If for some reason you cannot book Jimmy on short notice, I may hafta find a "beach band" . For cheap.
And I'm pretty sure he'll be using more discretion picking honorary referettes from now on. You did hear me sing, didn't you?![]()

you could also check http://www.craigslist.org (colorado, denver, boulder, etc.) for anyone getting rid of tropical goods.
