BLACK-TIE BENEFIT GALA TO RAISE FUNDS FOR MYRTLE BEACH TOURISM
For immediate release – April 12,2007
Calvin Gilmore announced today that he and the cast of The Carolina Opry will hold a benefit performance for the Myrtle Beach Marketing Cooperative with proceeds going to the co-op. The $100-per-ticket, black-tie gala will be presented on June 23, 2007 at the 2,200-seat Carolina Opry Theater and will include refreshments and heavy hors d’oeuvres. “We want attendees to feel like they are walking down the red carpet on Oscar night,” said Gilmore.
Gilmore stated that this will be an annual event at The Carolina Opry to raise much-needed funds for the Myrtle Beach Marketing Cooperative. “Myrtle Beach is being out-promoted and out-spent by competing markets such as Virginia Beach, Gatlinburg and Orlando, but Myrtle Beach has more to offer. We just need a bigger marketing budget to get the word out.”
Vanna White is helping to promote the event and other celebrities with vested interest in the Myrtle Beach market have also been invited to be involved and attend including Dolly Parton, Cal Ripken, Jr., Jimmy Buffett and the owners of the new Hard Rock Theme Park.
Committee members include: Woody Crosby, President and CEO of Jordan Properties; Brad Dean, President of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce; Gary Wortel, President and Publisher of the Sun News; Ed Piotrowski, Meteorologist for WPDE-TV15; Martha Hunn, News Anchor for WBTW-TV13; David Olive, President of Gilmore Entertainment; and Bruce French, Jeff Gilmore, and Jordan Watkins, all of Gilmore Entertainment.
Gilmore has challenged each hotel in the co-op to sell at least sixteen tickets, which would result in a sold-out performance. He went on to state that if every hotel, not just hotels in the co-op, and each restaurant in the Myrtle Beach market sold only one ticket, the gala benefit performance would be a sell-out. A prize and award will be presented to the individual and the business that is responsible for selling the most gala tickets.
The gala event was inspired by Brad Dean, Woody Crosby and other hotel owners in the Myrtle Beach Marketing Cooperative. It was their efforts that got the matching funds bill through the state legislature.
The co-op will not only receive the funds from the gala, but will also receive the matching funds from the state of South Carolina as a result of the gala performance.
“At the end of the day, this is a good excuse to have fun at a great big Myrtle Beach party and raise money to promote our destination at the same time,” concluded Gilmore.
Tickets for the gala can be purchased by calling
