Where should I go?

Post by FunkHouse9 »

My wife and I are in the process of trying to plan ourselves a vacation for this summer. We're looking to go during early to mid July. I'd love some input on this from some tropical minded folk. :pirate: :wench: We're looking to go international, and pretty sure we're headed to the islands or Mexico/Central America. We've looked at so many books and videos that the places are starting to run together. I'd love some advice/suggestions.

We went to Aruba 2 summers ago and loved it. We are looking for something similar I suppose. We're in our late 20's. Definately want to be at a beach with the option to move inland. We'd like the ability to have a few drinks at a beach bar 8) , have a number of dining options, some boat excursion opportunities, etc. Somewhere with forests and waterfalls, etc. would be a plus. We don't have tons of money for this, so the more expensive places and flights could rule some out. Some sightseeing choices would be good (volcanos, rainforests, inca temples), but sleeping in a mosquito net or swimming in a hurricane are not so good. Would also prefer a hotel over a hut and a fixed destination (or two) over a cruise.

I feel like places like the Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico are going to be too much like home. I'm trying to get some mileage out of my passport before I'm dragging a stroller on vacation with us. :-?

Anyone have any suggestions/comments?

Anywhere? Just close your eyes, spin the globe and pick. I would spin again though if you hit Iraq or any of thoise other not so tourist friendly places.

If you want an island, Barbados and Grenada are my favorites. Great beaches and plenty to do at both. I enjoyed Grenada most because of the spices available and the great food. I don't like crowds and both gave me the ability to avoid crowds.

Costa Rica, Panama and Belize all come to mind. Lots to do if you are so inclined and if not, you can relax on the beach and let life move past you ever so slowly.

I've had a few people say Costa Rica and Belize. I'm a little concerned that they might be too jungle-ish for my wife. I know people who have been to both and they seem to think that it might not work for her. Are the beach areas in either rather "happening" or are they pretty quiet? How far are the beaches from the wilderness (for lack of a better word)?

I'll look into Grenada and Barbados. I don't believe I've looked at much on them yet.

Belize is another one I keep hearing a lot about. It's so hard to decide. I'm going to have to go through all of these suggestions again. I think they got somewhat overlooked in the blur of reading about one after another.
