2007 Tour Begins in Houston

Post by phjim »

The 2007 Bama Breeze Tour kicked off on Satuday night at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX. Jimmy opened the show with "On The Road Again", a cover of the song by Willie Nelson. Two other songs were also performed live for the first time "Cinco de Mayo in Memphis" and "Reggabilly Hill". Other surprises to the set list included "Ballad of Spider John", "Northeast Texas Women", and "Tonight I Just Need My Guitar".

The set list from the show is now available, along with comments from those who listened to the show on Radio Margaritaville or SIRIUS Satellite Radio. The last two songs "Tonight I Just Need My Guitar" and "In My Room" were missing due to a local power loss backstage. They are working on re-airing the lost songs in the near future.

Some people who attended the show have mentioned the t-shirts include tour dates for Hollywood, CA and Honolulu, HI.

Michael Utley was not at the show because he was recovering from minor surgery in Nashville. Mac McAnally filled in on keyboards. He is expected to rejoin the band on Wednesday in Atlanta.

The opening act Robert Earl Keen played for about 30 minutes prior to Jimmy taking the stage. REK is only scheduled to be the opening act for the Houston show.

Actually, it was 3 songs, not 2....we also missed Another Saturday Night.

Doesn't ' a local power failure' that didnt affect the stadium sound or apparently the recording sound, just the transmission to RM....strain credulity? Unless the 'local power failure' means someone just prematurely pulled the plug.....

I'd be a little happier about the mention (I wont even call it a promise) of making those 2 or 3? songs available, if they had ever fulfilled the promise to play the Phoenix show of 2006, which had bad sound transmission, you will recall. We're still waiting for that one!!! Perhaps we can hope that they will do those 3 at other shows, so we can finally hear them.

I know, I know!! Its all free, and you get what you pay for, yada yada yada. Its just that with ticket prices so high now, the chance to hear the shows on RM is so precious......

But, that said, it was truly a great show....even without those 3!!!

Its easy to see why they rehearsed for a week....between the two new, never performed live songs and the multiple rarely performed ones, and Mr Utley's absence....and I fancied i also heard some freshening of the arrangements of some of the standards.....

Good job, gentlemen, good job!!!!

I wish they'd have offered some explaination last night when we were so unceremoniously "hosed." I haven't heard back from the e-mails I sent other thn the standard "Thank you for being a Sirius customer" stuff.

Can't wait for Atlanta and a live show!!!!

It was a great night for the concert.. it was cool, breezy and a few low clouds and a cresent moon right over the Minute Maid open roof.

We had field seats off to stage right, 40 rows back. Felt funny to be on the field where the Astros play... standing next to first base...

Tons of great tailgating in several big parking lots...

I can't imagine how much Land Shark or how many margaritas they sold...

Jimmy was coughing some off mike but kept up a strong voice and singing the whole show... He was tuned in to being back in Houston and Texas...

A few folks said acoustics were not good where they were sitting.

I know one thing for sure... it was great having Jimmy back in Houston!

Let me just say that in 35+ years of following Jimmy around the country, there has NEVER been a better, more complete set list than last night. Jimmy's roots and his often-overlooked musicianship were a'flying high.

His cover of SPIDER JOHN was so soulful ... He was really into the performance.

IN MY ROOM was incredibly beautiful ...the voices blended and the tone was perfection ... and then, everything melted away to just Jimmy and Mac and TONIGHT I JUST NEED MY GUITAR. Back where he started. Just hiim and the music.

It was a night of perfection under the quarter moon and the Gulf Breeze skies.

On which song? TIJNMG was just Jimmy and Mac ... I think ... I was so dazed when I realized he was closing the show with it ...

Peter, Tina, Nadirah, Jim, Jimmy and Mac were the voices on IN MY ROOM. Fabulous.

Wow!! I was able to listen to the show all the way until Jimmy took a quick break, then I had to punch out because of a previous scheduled get together with family. Needless to say I am PO'd that I missed "Ballad of Spider John" and "Tonight I Just Need My Guitar" live. Two of my favorites. I can't believe I missed them. So I just made up a new rule, no get togethers other then here online with you all during a show, unless I'm at the show. [smilie=grrrrrr.gif]
