I thought it was a nice touch that as they were getting to the last verse, Mac just quietly walked away, put his guitar down and left the stage so Jimmy could finish the show by himself.

MrTwain wrote: Do you think he puts that kind of thought into set lists? I don't know... I just wonder about that. In other words, do you think it's something he pours over for weeks, or something he writes on an envelope on the plane before he gets there? Is there a committee... does he have parrotheads on the side that he consults about what his audience would appreciate.... I just wonder.
Having had the fortunate luck of actually seeing the set list for the Anguilla show, I can assure you that there is much time & effort put into what he plays! The show on Saturday was an extension of what he did there....a little bit of old, a little bit of new- mixing it up a bit. I think he'll continue to do so for the rest of the tour. C'mon.....whatever he chooses to play is AWESOME, right?? :D

im glad most of you enjoyed the set list. however, my friends and I were NOT impressed. i thought he played good songs at the wrong time. let me put it this way: certain songs are better after being hyped up for an hour or so, like fins. fins is SO much better at the end of the show because your more "into" the concert mode, and probably a little drunker. the order of the songs made the entire flow of the concert up and down, instead of a gradual build up to a show-stopping finale. it felt unorganized to a certain degree.

secondly, sometimes jimmy writes songs that are good to listen to at home, but not concert worthy. enough said.

i'm not bashing the man, im just giving my honest opinion (although i'm sure i'll be bombarded with argumentative replies). i've been to 10 shows. i was at coastal confessions, seen him at a bar, and so on. to me, the ultimate jimmy buffett was TIKI TIME. it epitomized what he was about, and what made him famous. it also carried the "full" sound on stage. am i mad? no. will i stop going to shows or buying music? no. but i probably wont make another bama breeze show

My two cents

Jimmy wasn't ready for Minute Maid, and Minute Maid was not ready for him.

From where we were sitting the music seemed to be leaking right out the top. Some of the songs were completely inaudible. Although being a fan I finally figured it out. But worse I Think most of it is the venues fault as well.. The Bathroom lines were ridiculed, guess they didnt think we woud be drinking( not sure that could be helped). The lines for beers sometimes took 15 to 20 minutes to get through. There were no people selling beer anywhere around like there normally is. I personally would rather continue traveling to see him in great venues, then to ever see him in Minute Maid again.

Robert, Robert, Robert....did we wake up cranky on this Monday morning?? :(
I think you're suffering from a case of "No venue will ever rival what we saw on Rendezvous Bay" -itis!

the bathroom lines were very long. i went to the stros play off games and never had to stand in a line like that. even the guys had lines sat night.

i loved the set list. now, i have the live version of regabilly hill going through my head. just like the live version of ttwwy from the second vegas show with the gomez borthers. love the live harmonies.

and when he played TWo WAR songs... i just knew ETP would be excited

I agree that Minute Maid accoustics were really bad.

Don't you think his voice sounded great, though?

Independent of the set list, I thought he sounded better than ever. His voice sounds richer, he was more in tune, seldom off pitch at all. He has a better ring to his voice these days I think.

Most importantly, he didn't shout the last words to each line in Changes in Lattitudes! :D

He sounded really good.

As much as I enjoyed the whole show, it was different for us who did the BN tailgate thing. What a deal.

The lines for drinks outside was ridiculous. Some friends said they were in line over 30 minutes for drinks. I don't think it was planned very well either. I only saw one place to purchase t-shirts and was glad we got there EARLY EARLY!!

WE DID have to stand in line a while to get in, but that wasn't too bad.

I have heard folks say the sound echoed in places. So, how was the sound for everyone else?

Houston planners did an alright job, but I don't think they were ready for that many folks to come down and party like we do. Even the guy delivering pizza at midnight made about the same type comment.

Heck, Jimmy even kinda stopped and wondered why he got no reaction when he said something right at first. Then he commented how it took a while for the sound to get THERE!!

"Houston Review" is a broad request.

And to answer the first post questions, I guess Jimmy's part was shorter since there was an opening act. It was a real treat for Robert Earl Keen to return to where he grew up to play at his favorite team's ballpark. It was a real treat for many TEXAS folks to see one of their own open the show.

The songs for REK took about 40 minutes and he didn't really talk between songs...one of his trademarks in his performance. Heck the last song itself was almost 9 minutes. Then there was somewhat of a setup change which took time.

Jimmy still got in a 27 song setlist plus HOT HOT HOT!

Maybe the flow of things seemed a bit off during the show without Michael Utley. I suppose he really does quite a bit to set the pace of things with his stage directing.

But he coughed the whole time between songs. Must have swallowed too much salt water down in Galveston Bay.

I liked what Jimmy said when he introduced Reggabilly Hill - this sounds like what you'd get if Bill Monroe and Bob Marley got together to smoke a big old doobie.

one of the best lines of the night (well, maybe besides some of the lines you used to get pics with the babes)

You got that right, sistah!

I'm sorry the sound sucked for some ... it was good and LOUD where we were ... my only complaint is how many seats they tried to pack onto the field ... there was -0- room to move, dance, jump up and down, where we were sitting ...

conched said people were dancing all around her ... :D

I loved the video of Jimmy catching a wave behind that ship. Was that in Galveston, do you think? Sure looked a lot like our murky bay water if you ask me.

I thought the set list was inspired.

Maybe at the end of the tour he'll be tired and just
fall back on the usual, but for me it was perfect.

Yeah I think the video look like they were in the bay, and I've got a feeling there was some video editing done there.
