Yeah I think the video look like they were in the bay, and I've got a feeling there was some video editing done there.
During the Savannah interview with Jimmy he told her he caught a wave behind the tanker for over 4 minutes and nearly a mile.
I read a story about them keeping it a secret where about 6 of the "special places" are where they catch those waves from the tankers.

I thought the waves looked to big for a tanker traveling the sip channel, but what do I know.

Its the magic of the music that still draws a crowd...
Had a wonderful time in Houston at Minute Maid/Margaritaville
Great songs and lots of fun. Where are the saxophones, ...again?
One question for those in the know. If Jimmy rehearsed in Austin for a few
weeks, as the Houston Chronicle reported, how did he spend the week
surfing in Galveston ? He thanked his buddies who took him
chasing tankers looking for waves during the encore with video shown.
I happen to work a stones throw from the alleged rehearsal site
of Travis County Expo Center where they hold the rodeos.
How were a few weeks of rehearsals kept secret?

I swear I saw a boat plane the Sunday before the show. It was flying west/nw in the Katy area......maybe he was enroute to Austin from Galveston? .....maybe not?

You got that right, sistah!
I'm sorry the sound sucked for some ... it was good and LOUD where we were ... my only complaint is how many seats they tried to pack onto the field ... there was -0- room to move, dance, jump up and down, where we were sitting ...
conched said people were dancing all around her ...

Let's just say it wasn't all Baptists around me either.

I tried loading up the jimmydreamz ftp site but I can't connect. It may be my hosts fault, but I have to ask first: has anything changed with the site recently?

Welcome to BN, superdave!!
I am definitely not "in the know," but I do know this ...
If Jimmy and his entire crew can come to Houston, play a show, pack up, move to Atlanta, play a show four days later , pack up, move back to Frisco, and play a show three days later, I have no doubt he can rehearse in Austin and and surf in Galveston in a two week time span ...
As for the rehearsals being kept secret ..... he "knows" people .....
I am loving the reviews here because I can never capture the moment in words. But one thing that always *gets* me is when he starts APLAF. It might just be my imagination, but there is always this look of awe on his face or in his expression, when the entire crowd begins to sing, he sort of stops and looks around like "wow - just wow - listen to all those phruits out there - is this for real - I just love my summer job!!" And the crowd is just humming with energy - not the exuberant energy, like say in Fins, just a loud and strong emotional energy. I think he feels it.

as soon as he said he wanted to thank his friends who took him to the Ship Channel, I knew he'd seen that documentary from a couple years ago where they described. The swells may not be big, but they go forever..

Sadly, the saxophones are no longer with Jimmy and the Coral Reefers.
During the preshow interview on RM with Savannah, Jimmy said that he visited with friends in Austin and rehearsed for 8 or 9 days.
It sounded like he just did the tanker surf thing for one day down in Galveston. Before SOASOAS he said he was down on the beach the other day and having a good time on the TEXAS coast.
I guess Jimmy has learned to be elusive when he wants to be and has been known to jet around from place to place. Houston to Georgia to Frisco. Seems his plane has been seen in Charleston since Sunday.
I'm just glad he's still getting around and making it possible for us to ROADTRIP to catch a show.

Well said, PHarmGirl! And Jimmy has a way of leaving us all more energized after the shows. Just think how high we'll be after Frisco.

I just finished listening to the show -
A Pirate Looks At Forty/Redemption Song may be my favorite new arrangement of a great old Buffett song. They did that at the Anguilla show too, I hope that means it's going to be a staple on this year's tour.

I don't complain about a setlist....I'm just glad he's still touring and I'm able to go.....and the friendships forged over many years of doing this.....are priceless...
