I'm working on my geography paper for school and one of my topics is Caribbean mythology and using the song Jolly Mon as an example. When doing research on Caribbean mythology, I came across this article about equating the Jolly Mon to Jesus.

Now, I'll give dude props for being a Parrothead/seminary student (see the link "About Jay" on that site, but I hope I'm not the only one who found his analogy WAY off.
Anyway, my paper is due on Tuesday so I better get busy.

Ya'll seriously think that's cool? I think it's kind of retarded.

I LIKE it!!! It's far from retarded...
The holy spirit as a dolphin...
(Hey, I'm sure he gets tired of always showing up as a dove)
Good analogy...

If we follow the analogy, does that make Jimmy the Creator?

Why does this guy's picture make me
think he's a Mad TV character?

A shame he hasn't read Jolly Mon, the Book.
He'd have to start his thesis all over...
Odd how his life story reminds me of another St. Louis resident...

You call 'em sandals, I call 'em flip-flops.
Does the Jolly Mon drink from a Tin Cup Chalice?

So, now we need to equate all the rest of JB's characters to Bible characters...
Billy Voltaire - ?
Desdemona - ?
Tully Mars - ?
Frank Bama - ?
Joe Merchant - ?
Ix Nay - ?
Mr. Twain - ?
Marita - ?
Jason Mason - ?
The guy who went to Paris - ?
The lady who came down from Cincinnati - ?
Cleopatra - ?
et cetera...

OK...as a pastor I suppose I'm obligated to weigh in here...
What a load of crap. Jimmy writes this book with his daughter. I don't think the Catholic church has been especially kind to him or that he has great memories there.
About the last thing I'd expect of him is to write an allegorical story about Jesus.
If you're looking for this sort of thing, check out CS Lewis or The Rings triology.
If we're trying to force religious connections, I'm curious about Matt Betton's background and Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On. The word for Wind, Breath, and Spirit is the same in Greek...with the last line being "Just bow your head, BIBOMO" there might be something "religious" there, but I think it's a stretch.
My kids love the Jimmy song "My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink, and I _Sure_ Love Jesus." My four year old asked me if we could sing it in church sometime. ;-)
Peace,
Matt

"He is the Messiah! This is his sandal! No, it's his shoe! No, it's a sandal! We should gather shoes in abundance! Miracles!"

Buzz-killer.
We need a plan B. Maybe the Jolly Mon is representative of something in Greek Mythology? Yeah. He's Icarus? or something.

Billy Voltaire = King David because they were both musicians....who's next?

Hey BB...I was hoping to come to Denver for a show this summer... I guess I'm up for another Aspen show if he plays here again in December. (He did say "The annual Belly Up bash" during the interview last December...)
SharkOnLand, didn't mean to be a wet blanket, so here's a few more--
Desdemona--Queen of Sheba (1 Kings 10)
Lady who came down from Cincinnati--Rahab (Joshua 2)
Marita--Dancer for Herod (Matthew 14:1-12)
The guy who went to Paris--Solomon in Ecclesiastes (He had questions that bothered him so)
I'll stop and let someone else pick up some of the main characters.

We'll be there this year if he shows.
