I don't blame the media for reporting the news. I blame our society, in general, for allowing things like this to happen...time and time again. It seems the human race is determined to be it's own worst enemy. And how you fix that, I don't know.......

IMHO it's been going on since Aug 1, 1966

Good point ... and while I was too young at the time to take note of just where I was then ... even now I recal that Texas tower incident.

you can try to call it personal security
you can try to hide behind the Second Amendment (do you honestly think it was designed for a society of millions?)
you can try to blame video games, but it comes down to this:

These kind of atrocities do not occur without HANDGUNS
It's guns that facilitate the loss of multiple lives

You wanna live by the sword, you can expect to die by the sword...

carolinagirl wrote:I disagree with the media being blamed. The media should not be a moral censor on the news and not report something because it would hurt someone's feelings. If that were the case, nothing would be reported. NBC did not air the entire content of the tapes and said they never would. It is relevant news that the guy sent the tapes to a media outlet and that much reported with a very brief sampling of the tapes. The coverage of the story has not offended me or outraged me because I can turn the TV off when I've seen enough.

I won't remember where I was when I heard about this, I suppose, because I was not as shocked as I was with other major events.
I would agree with all but the last statement, as I will remember first learning the news, and the feelings I had at that moment.

And, as for another's reference to Sago Mines, I will remind you, as I did at the time, that the press did not get the info wrong---the officials (note the word officials) who reported that misinformation to the town, the families, and the media.

I think there is a very fine line here, and, though I was not watching a lot of the coverage, I think NBC was right to show what they did. Anyone can choose to not watch it, but I do think it was appropriate to air it and to discuss the implications of the footage.

The media will go away---slower than they should, but they will. And they will be back--for graduation, and on many anniversaries to come. And though that may seem wrong to some of you, it is a way of making sure we never forget what can and did happen.

I'LL remember where I was when I heard the news of this act of evil.
I was sitting right here playing on my computer listening to the Rush Limbaugh radio show. He was who I heard it from.
YES, I listen to Rush Limbaugh, so STFU! :x

I also remember Aug. 1st 1966.
Well, okay, I didn't remember the exact date, but I definately remember when that C.S.er Whitman shot those people in Texas. I would've been 14.
It made an otherwise happy day for me very sad. (That was the day I bought the Beatles song "Yellow Submarine" on 45-I have the dates written down on all records I bought).

AND, maybe not many people remember this because "only" five people died, but in 1991, a foreign national attending college at the University of Iowa (across the street from where I now work) shot several people on the campus, killing five and wounding several others, and leaving one young lady paralyzed for life. It's been 16 years and SO FAR they haven't made a movie about it. Hopefully they won't.

I admit I didn't know where Blacksburg, VA was before last Monday, and, nothing against the town or it's dynamite people, but I wish to God I STILL never heard of the place.

Finally, last night at work I had the dubious distinction of being the one who put the flag in front of my building back up to full staff.
Talk about a CREEPY feeling.

IMHO NONE of you can talk because NONE of you live or have lived in our great town. NOne of you know what its like here. I do really despise the media that hide behind their fake frowns and faux concerns. Yesterday and Monday we were in church, trying to heal. People were praying and crying during communion, and about 8 godd**N people with video cameras rushed in and started filming us. Totally insensitive, and the worst part, on the way out, they tried to in terview people. I beleive some pics of our church were in the NYT. Totally unwanted. The Inn @ VT was filled with huge sattleite trucks, about 100, until a out sunday. now their are less, but they are still here. I agree, this is not nearly as bad as 9-11, but that happened in NYC, a huge city. This happened in my town of Bburg, of about 35,000.

You're right-I WASN'T there, and ya know, that's probably a GOOD thing because had I been there and saw a bunch of insensitive a-holes with video cameras, I would've gotten up and whipped some SERIOUS a$$ right there in the church.

Meanwhile, F.W.I.W., you and your community continue to be in my prayers.

Those pictures stir OUR emotions, but, as you stated, you'd think at an awful time like this those clowns would show a bit more sensitivity.
Sadly, it's all about ratings.

i went to a differtent church and Mass yesterday.....they had a Korean Priest...and his homely was about the VT killings....but what made it strange was he was making it sound more of a apology and that Koreans weren't like that.........after a while i was shaking my head wondering how this was relevant to what happened....it could of been any nationality and the fact of the matter was 33 innocent people died...will i remember what happened ...always...but will i remember where i was.......i doubt it...........i don't live close to the situation( but i feel for the families).............it wasn't a attack on America were every American was effected!!

My son, Chris, said it seemed better today...he didn't see anyone shoving microphones into faces of the kids
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Honestly? I probably won't remember the actual date any more than I remember the dates of other horrible events (or heck, even most "good" events  ) but I WILL always remember the event, and how far reaching its effects were.
