As of July, 2005 (the most recent figures I could find), NJ's population was 8,717,000. Virginia's was 7,567,000. That doesn't sound like much of a difference but in terms of land area, NJ is only a little over 7,400 sq. miles. Virginia, on the other hand, is 39,500 sq. miles, almost 6 times the size of NJ. So yeah, NJ has more than "not that many people." We should let this thread keep going, maybe you'll get something right eventually.

It is sort of a Buffett philosphical question: am I the huge Parrot Head type because I like the music or because Jimmy has made it point to make NE a tradtion yearly with numerous shows that I can look forward to.

Honestly, if I lived somewhere else I would still like Jimmy's music but I would not be such a fan. Not so much that he plays New England way more but because he makes it perfectly clear during his shows that he feels NE is the best - it is sort of a snub to other areas . . . indirectly but it is.
Not to argue with you here, but you do realize that everywhere Jimmy (and probably most other acts) go, they say it is their "favorite place to play" and "you fans are the best". He says great woods is best tail gate, but also says that at alpine. Like I said, four shows within a 5 hour drive of each other in midwest (and recent years have been more than that) I dont see as a direct or indirect snub of anyone. Except Boise.

Nope, he doesn't . . . just let me say that I really don't care where Jimmy thinks is the best but I do know that I have been to 4 shows at Alpine and 18 at Great Woods and I have listened others on Radio Margaritaville and Jimmy says every time he is at Great Woods that it is the best and has never mentioned it at Alpine . . . or Jones Beach . . . or the 1 time I was at Cinci . . . or at Tampa . . . or when I saw him in Chicago . . .

I DO however like that unlike other bands who say things like "no one rocks like 'fill in the blank'" . . . Jimmy doesn't do it.

If Jimmy were to say "best tailgate Alpine" then great . . . but he wouldn't repeat it at Great Woods or where ever.

I think that all tailgates for Jimmy are all good . . . but I do appreciate a little sincerity from performers and Jimmy knows that people listen to his shows all over the planet and he doesn't lie or tell people what they want to hear.

You are absolutely right.....anyone who regularly listens to the shows on RM knows that Mr Buffett makes it a point to be most effusive about the venue and fans at virtually every concert....and I believe he means it...I think as he has become settled and secure in his profession, he has come to genuinely value and appreciate all the places and folks who have appreciated him.....its always like a big love-fest.

Hey, he wont be able to do that in Atlantic City, a venue new to him---wonder how he'll handle that.....??

Only in New England is a 25 mile commute considered a roadtrip.

Don't forget the Pike, 128, 495, 93 and 84. I grew up there and suffered from the same affliction until I saw the light and moved south.

Oh yeah, he says things like "great fans" and "the great mid west" and "you people are awesome" and mentions landmarks and bars in the area - things like that . . . but as far as saying "best tailgate" he only says that specifically for one venue - adds credibility . . . would be bs is he said it everywhere.

I wonder what Jimmy bases his "best tailgate" comments on? I'm guessing he doesn't spend a lot of time in the parking lot.

No, not anymore . . . he used to play small acoustic numbers in random spots and was filmed walking around a few years in a row - - - lately, he flies over the lot here which alot people think is more of an urban legend. However, I know a guy who flies in and out of Mansfield often (1/4 mile from Great Woods) and Jimmy does use the strip when in town . . . so I am guessing he buzzes over Great Woods just to check s*** out.

Why not? Even if I were worth hundreds of millions a Jimmy Buffet tailgate must look awesome from the sky. The airport at Mansfield has Hot Air Balloon rides which I think would be fun to do to film the lot from above.

Jimmy also has access to Hanscom Airforce Base where I was stationed briefly and uses their facilities alot during the summer due to it's central location to the Berkshires, Cape Cod, Boston and Northern Points.

Other than that I think that most of the big venues that Jimmy has played for years and years are all great . . . the only thing I notice about Great Woods personally is there are more larger displays - more elaboate perhaps I should say . . . but great people everywhere and that is what counts.

As I stated in another thread:

They had a LiveNation promoter on the radio this morning... discussing Genessis actually, but when one of the DJs asked if part of their job was procurring the acts to the venues, the LN guy said... I'm glad you asked that. People think that bands just decide where they want to go and make arrangements to go there. He said it's just the opposite... the different promoters from the venues contact the bands and hope that they can fit them in their schedule at their venue.

Makes you hope that venues can squeeze a questionable selling act like Jimmy in next year between the Britney Spears post rehab tour and the Styx/Asia/Loverboy rockfest!!

1) Look at a population map, see the numbers in the Northeast? Nuff said.
2) He is also playing 4 shows within a 3 1/2 hour drive for me (alpine, tinley, indy and cincy) and I dont live in the northeast.
3) Have heard he likes to set home bases on tour, like in midwest he stays in chicago during alpine and indy trips, so makes sense for a lot of NE concerts.
4) People in the NE are better than you and JB knows it
OK NE people are cooler but Southerners act more like people to other people. And i dunno, maybe Jimmy can get better deals in the NE than in the rest of the world. And sorry, but California has a ton of people too. and they are yet to get an official show. And dont tell me i'm not really grateful of Jimmy touring for us at his age. all i'm sayin is that he coudl do the same amount of shows in a fairer range and play to more people. Also, theres not that many people in NJ and Boardwalk hall looks prety small and way to up scale for a JB show. Even if i lived a block away from the Hall i wouldnt go.
First of all, I am SO SORRY about your tradegy this month...the whole country was sad. I spent most of my life in Maryland and I really feel like a neighbor.

Enough said, why would Jimmy play in the Northeast when he can play in FLORIDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After all, "It's so nice to be HOME in Florida again...."
Yeah but he lives here on Long Island too!!!!! [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

Granted..Wy, MT, SD, ND and of course Boise may not have been as lucky as those of us in more populated areas over the years... but my goodness... lets count our blessings thast we still have concerts to go see. Save your pennies and hit the road! Or better yet.... listen for FREE on RM.

rant over..... :D
it has been a while since he played in the Big Sky Country...
