I did say, "In their right mind".....
Aspen via Vegas.... no biggie.... but going over the bridge for anything is just crazy talk.....

Not to argue with you here, but you do realize that everywhere Jimmy (and probably most other acts) go, they say it is their "favorite place to play" and "you fans are the best". He says great woods is best tail gate, but also says that at alpine. Like I said, four shows within a 5 hour drive of each other in midwest (and recent years have been more than that) I dont see as a direct or indirect snub of anyone. Except Boise.
You are absolutely right.....anyone who regularly listens to the shows on RM knows that Mr Buffett makes it a point to be most effusive about the venue and fans at virtually every concert....and I believe he means it...I think as he has become settled and secure in his profession, he has come to genuinely value and appreciate all the places and folks who have appreciated him.....its always like a big love-fest.
Hey, he wont be able to do that in Atlantic City, a venue new to him---wonder how he'll handle that.....??
Oh yeah, he says things like "great fans" and "the great mid west" and "you people are awesome" and mentions landmarks and bars in the area - things like that . . . but as far as saying "best tailgate" he only says that specifically for one venue - adds credibility . . . would be bs is he said it everywhere.
maybe you were in the bathroom when he said it, but he has mentioned the quality of tailgating at Alpine several times. Are you sure you weren't hearing the Patriots' QB bragging about the tailgating and just got confused?

Plain and simple people need to stop complaining about JB playing New England.. We hear it over and over every year and it's getting quite tiresome! I'm from New England and currently reside in NC. I've been to over 20 show's and the majority of them were outside of New England. Yes, I was fortunate enough to travel to see him and know that not everyone can do that. I also know that I was fortunate enough to have him play my home state.. I currently am having Buffett withdrawals myself but you don't hear me complaining! I had tickets to GW last year and couldn't go b/c I moved to NC two weeks prior and couldn't make it home for the shows. Right now Jimmy doesn't have plans to play Carolina.. Am I T'd?!?! Heck ya! but am I gonna b**** about it?! NO!! Yeah we all want him to play locally but we all know that can't happen.. Jimmy is getting up there and we should all be greatful that he still has it in him to continue to perform as much as he does and be thankful that he has a live feed to all or almost all of his show's!

Triathlete-Parakeet2 wrote:Indiana Jolly Mon wrote:Now that the "10-12 shows" has been clarified to 4-6, lets figure why.
1) Look at a population map, see the numbers in the Northeast? Nuff said.
2) He is also playing 4 shows within a 3 1/2 hour drive for me (alpine, tinley, indy and cincy) and I dont live in the northeast.
3) Have heard he likes to set home bases on tour, like in midwest he stays in chicago during alpine and indy trips, so makes sense for a lot of NE concerts.
4) People in the NE are better than you and JB knows it

OK NE people are cooler but Southerners act more like people to other people. And i dunno, maybe Jimmy can get better deals in the NE than in the rest of the world. And sorry, but California has a ton of people too. and they are yet to get an official show. And dont tell me i'm not really grateful of Jimmy touring for us at his age. all i'm sayin is that he coudl do the same amount of shows in a fairer range and play to more people. Also, theres not that many people in NJ and Boardwalk hall looks prety small and way to up scale for a JB show. Even if i lived a block away from the Hall i wouldnt go.
OK, that comment above just rubbed me the wrong way! I'm a New Englander and I treat people the way I want to be treated.. In addition, I have run into just as many @$$holes down here in NC as I have up in MA.. In addition, California may not be listed now but he usually plays there in the fall.. I know b/c I've traveled there to see him! In addition.. stop complaining!! You live in VA and he's playing VA this summer!

Well, despite Jimmy's alleged "saturation" of the northeast, he's not coming closer than a 4.5 hour drive from me. That, combined with ticket prices I'm not willing to pay, means I'll be staying home this year. If he was playing some place closer where I didn't have to stay overnight, I'd probably cough up the dough for a seat.

It is sort of a Buffett philosphical question: am I the huge Parrot Head type because I like the music or because Jimmy has made it point to make NE a tradtion yearly with numerous shows that I can look forward to.
Honestly, if I lived somewhere else I would still like Jimmy's music but I would not be such a fan. Not so much that he plays New England way more but because he makes it perfectly clear during his shows that he feels NE is the best - it is sort of a snub to other areas . . . indirectly but it is.
Not to argue with you here, but you do realize that everywhere Jimmy (and probably most other acts) go, they say it is their "favorite place to play" and "you fans are the best". Nope, he doesn't . . . just let me say that I really don't care where Jimmy thinks is the best but I do know that I have been to 4 shows at Alpine and 18 at Great Woods and I have listened others on Radio Margaritaville and Jimmy says every time he is at Great Woods that it is the best and has never mentioned it at Alpine . . . or Jones Beach . . . or the 1 time I was at Cinci . . . or at Tampa . . . or when I saw him in Chicago . . .
I DO however like that unlike other bands who say things like "no one rocks like 'fill in the blank'" . . . Jimmy doesn't do it.
If Jimmy were to say "best tailgate Alpine" then great . . . but he wouldn't repeat it at Great Woods or where ever.
I think that all tailgates for Jimmy are all good . . . but I do appreciate a little sincerity from performers and Jimmy knows that people listen to his shows all over the planet and he doesn't lie or tell people what they want to hear.
You guys are all really cute and everything...I'm quite sure he likes your venues....
HOWEVER...he only says "It's so nice
TO BE HOME IN FLORIDA AGAIN"...in Florida!

Well, that's probably because it would sound kind of stupid if he said "it's so nice to be home in Florida again" when he's in Illinois.

Tell you what, if the shoe was on the other foot and this was JB's tour for the year, I'd love to know what the beloved NE would think then:
Atlanta (2 shows)
Columbia
Charlotte (2 shows)
Birmingham
Nashville (RIP STARWOOD)
Knoxville
Orange Beach
New Orleans Jazzfest
Raleigh
Jacksonville
Gainesville
West palm beach
And round it out by playing one kick a** stadium show in the SEC somewhere (preferably in Athens @ Sanford Stadium)
Oh yeah...and squeeze in MSG, Alpine Valley, and Great Woods IF THERE IS ROOM.
It would be the exact same thing. It is very easy for the NE folks to say "stop whining" when Buffett spends at least 1 summer weekend a month in your backyard.
Hey, enjoy it, live it up. Have a great time. But don't be so condescending as to say that people on here in any other part of the US ouside of the NE and midwest do not have a legitmate argument, should stop their whining, and just get on a plane.
