Hey Folks! I'm going to be in the Dallas area on business from May 7th through the 15th and May 21st through June 1st and possibly the first week in June. Can you recommend anything to do on the weekends? Is there anything that I MUST see? I'll be staying up near Westlake at the Gaylord Texan and the Embassey Suites. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! :D

rent a car and go south to Austin

There's a ton of stuff to do in the DFW area - it all depends on your tastes. Ft Worth tends to be more cultural and more laid back than Dallas. The metroplex is great for all kinds of live music.

Are there any festivals or anything going on this time of year? Any locals free to get together?

The shops at Willow Bend in Frisco are supposed to be stunning, but my choice for shopping in Dallas has always been NorthPark ... on Central Expresseway at Loop 12. There's a P.F. Chang's there ... and a great seafood place, too .... but my fave at NorthPark is Maggiano's. Love the family style Italian and all the songs they play on the sound system.

I love the scene in Lower Greenville Avenue ... not a bad bar on the street. That's where I first saw Jimmy so many decades ago.

The Dallas Museum of Art is right next to the Nasher Sculpture Garden and both are impressive.

The West End is kitchy ... Deep Ellum is a whole other world.

Don't miss a lunch at Sonny Bryan's Bar-B-Q ... the original's on Inwood and you need to get there early because they usually sell out.

I love Kosta's for Greek food ... but there's a new place off Fitzhugh called Zizinki's (I think) that's really cozy and upscale ...

Of course, the 6th Floor Museum is a good choice, if you like history. It's very moving and powerful.

I love the mustangs out in Irving at Los Colinas ... they're one of the more beautiful things about Texas.

Enjoy!

The White Elephant at the Stockyards has great live music inside and outside the bar. Billy Bob's is a fun time. Also if you are in Ft. Worth stop in the Flying Saucer for some great beer and go to the Dueling Piano bar towards the end of the night for a great time. I can't wait to go back to Texas in September!
