I grew up in Buffalo but lived in Detroit and its suburbs from the age of 21 to 35.
Buffalo is a weird little city. The main thing I miss about home is the awesome food. I don't miss the fanatical worship of the Buffalo Bills. I don't miss living in a city that has a HUGE chip on its shoulder from losing 4 straight Super Bowls. I also don't miss living in that pro football town which seizes up with fear when considering that when the team's absentee, elderly owner passes away, his family may very well sell the team. God forbid, Buffalo with no Bills to worship on Sundays
sure, a lot of people love the Sabres but Buffalo is still a Bills' obsessed town.
Detroit, on the other hand, despite being a gritty town dealing with a huge downturn in the auto industry, is firts and foremost a hockey loving town. The Wings' owner, Mr. Ilitch has been integral in trying to revitalize what was a dying City in the 1970's & 1980's. The Wings are a first class organization which many from Detroit HATE because Mr. Ilitch (like a certain owner of the Yankees) will spend and do whatever it takes to win. Part of that includes knowing what deals NOT to do - like rejecting prima donna Sergei Federov's extortion attempt in the late 1990's. The Wings are a first class organization. I am not a huge Hasek fan (he's back in hockey because his "Dominator" clothing line was a huge flop) becuase of his egocentrism. But, he's been awesome in the playoffs and who cares about egocentrism if he's doing his job well!
I hope the Wings win for many reasons. I think the Wings WILL win because for the first time in years they're playing with composure and confidence.
So, Go Wings and Go Pistons..For that matter, GO TIGERS! Three great hometown teams owned by hometown owners.

I didn't say I didn't like hockey. I just don't want to see Lord Stanley's cup. Or whatever it is he keeps in it.
But hockey is much better in person, it's hard to follow all the action on tv.

Absolutely. And that is why it will never catch on with mainstream America. It is always going to be a regional sport. Now, with the advent of big tvs and HD, it helps but watching it on a normal, non-HD tv is difficult. There is so much to the game that you really need to see what is going on in front of and behind the play.
Hockey is best seen live, about 15 rows up at center ice while drinking a beer.

So am I. As much as I appreciate the "support the Canadian team" Attitude that goes on here in Canada every year during the playoffs, I just can't cheer for the Sens or the Leafs.
Let's go Sabres!!!

You should see Ottawa these days: every other car has a Sens flag flying and the offices, banks (especially Scotiabank, 'cause they have the Naming Rights where the Sens play) and even the hospitals are all decorated. Everybody wearing red! Not many people can go to the games, but the pubs with HDTV or any large screen are full of fans.
Go sens go!
Back in my home town of London, Ont, they still cheer for Detroit (it's the Anything But Toronto rule).

Our local rumor mill suggests that the Stanley Cup will make an appearance at one of our local bars on the Cup Tour should they win.
I'd like to see the Sabres win. During the six years I was coaching
college hockey in the Albany area I had the Sabres on my cable
network. I enjoyed the passionate announcers and became a fan
of the team even though my loyalty is still with the Bruins. The
Sabres have some great team speed and 4 lines of talent. The
Ottawa series should be some great hockey....especially since their
is no love lost between both teams.
I am also an "original six" fan so I wouldn't mind seeing Detroit win
again.

What school did you coach at? I went to RPI from 87-91 (and saw Joe Juneau play, which was awesome). That was where I learned to play hockey; Houston Field House, Frear Park; ah, the memories..

According to the numbers in the poll, there are 6 Sens fans--or maybe 6 people with faith in the Sens... I had no idea we were such an underdog!

Well, I'm a fan of the Senators (I like the logo) but I think Buffalo is going to win. Then again, after last nights game, may not.
