Jimmy Had a Bug at the Houston Show

Post by phjim »

The Houston Chronicle has an article: "Even bugs can be Parrotheads" (by Ken Hoffman)

It took me awhile, but I've found out why Jimmy Buffett was coughing and hocking up loogies during his concert at Minute Maid Park ...

That's what happened. Buffett swallowed a bug right before the concert. The roof was open and something was flying around. Gulp! The little bugger stuck in his throat.

The bug didn't affect his singing, but after each song Buffett turned from the microphone, hacked pretty hard and looked like he was searching for a spittoon.

I'm told he finally coughed up the bug midway through the second half of the show, and the concert continued without incident.

I play trumpet and I can't tell you how many bugs I have swallowed during outdoor concerts! You really don't have much to say about it, because the music dictates when you have to breath and then GULP!

Most of the time it isn't a problem, but it isn't ANY fun when it sticks in the back of your throat. Ugh.

Well, I'm glad to know it happens to everyone!

I was singing at an outdoor wedding a few years back and right
in the middle of a lonf note a bug flew down my throat. Nothin' to
do but swallow!

I finished the song and then coughed my guts up!

yuck! :o :o :o

I've had that happen to me a few times. Worst was a year or so back, playing at a restaurant/bar in the Sacramento Delta. There were these huge green bugs being blown past me on the wind. One went right down the wrong pipe. I was coughing for a while from that, but managed to keep the show going.

YUCK is right!

He could have changed to 5 o'clock Somewhere and let Mac take over and gone off to cough it up!!! Wonder how much Rose Gatorade he needed after that?!

At least we now know he's not a Jain. That would have been a mortal sin.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.
