Gulfshores ?

Post by B.I.G. DAWG »

My wife and I snuck down without the kids this past weekend to Gulfshores, AL. We had a great time. The weather was beautiful and it was not very crowded. We went to LuLu's Saturday night, it was packed. (1 hour wait to be seated). But time passed fast sitting at 1 of the 3 or 4 bars there. We had fun there. We stopped by the Flora-Bama Sunday afternoon and had a drink. It was quiet there but I hear they had a pretty good party the night before. We want to go back soon, any other recommendations for places to see/ go there for someone who has been? Also where was LuLu's before current location? Thanks!

Bahama Bob's on the Beach is good for lunch. You can walk in with your bathing suit on and everything is cool.

I think LuLu's used to be on Mobile Bay in Fairhope. If you are looking for another cool place, drive a little further down the beach to Pensacola and go to Flounders!

I saw Flounders the last time we drove thru that way, but didn't stop. The TEXAS guys go over and play there.

Also, I think John Reno still plays at the Calypso Joe's Grille at Orange Beach. Is this place still open?

Check out and see where Brent Burns is the next time you plan a trip to Gulf Shores. Always good seeing him.

The Pink Pony Pub. Also right on the beach right there in Gulf Shores. Same deal ... walk right in with your bathing suit and get a beer and seafood or a burger.

Calypso Joe's et al

Post by Pirate Kat »

Bob doesn't own the restaurants in Orange Beach Marina any longer, and John Reno doesn't play there. He does play at different places along the Causeway in Daphne, my fave being the Beach House Bar & Grill. You can check him out at johnreno.com. Calypso Joe's is still about the best place in Orange Beach for keets though. Good food at decent prices and very kid friendly.

The Crab Trap on Perdido Key (right past the Flora~Bama and Florida line) is pretty good. If you like fried seafood, King Neptune is good and has "early bird" specials. Jesse's Place in Magnolia Springs is excellent and very laid back and off the beaten path. Wolf's Bay Lodge is good too.

For my money, Flounder's Chowder House is THE best on the gulf coast, and well worth the drive to Pensacola. The food and service are excellent, you can't touch the location, and I've yet to get out of my car in the parking lot and not hear Buffett playing on their system.

As much as I can remember about Lulu's old location was that after you turned East on Hwy 98 toward Foley after you pass the Big OLD Grand Hotel resort, at Point Clear, and keep going south and then as HWY 98 turns east there'll be Week's Bay Bridge at Fish River and Lulu's was under the bridge.

wow thanks. Will have to check those places out. I remember going by many of those places . The pink pony stood out because it is a strip club in Atlanta. Had a great time down there. Thanks for the info.

May 26 would be a good time to be at Gulf Shores with Mac and Fingers playing at Lulu's!!

Check out Lulupalooza!

LuLupalooza is a Memorial Day Weekend tradition here at LuLu's. It's a full day of live music, great food and fun on the LuLu's beach. Bring out the whole family and celebrate the beginning of summer with LuLu's and some of our favorite bands. This year's event features, KAISO! at 1pm, local favorite, Wes Loper at 4pm and renowned Singer/Songwriter, Mac McAnally and special guest, Greg "Fingers" Taylor at 7pm.

A great week indeed!
May 20 Uncle Jim
May 21 Brent Burns
May 22 John Reno

Cool how Lulu's is giving away a Jimmy Buffett Concert Trip to Chicago through American Idol Tuesday night drawing.

Glad to hear it is a lot of fun down there. We are taking our kids down there in August and we rented a penthouse condo on the beach. Any fun places for the keets to play?

My mom and dad are going down there this Tuesday. Dad's gonna go deep-sea fishing and bring me back some snapper. I wanted to go. How dare they go to the beach without me? :( I told them where Lulu's is....maybe they'll bring me back a new shirt that I can date. 8)
