I t was really hard to breath and smelt really bad.
Both my boys have asthma....THANK GOD for A/C. It smells so bad outside that your lungs hurt as soon as you open the door. I still can't get the smell out of my hair and I washed it 2x.

How are you guys doing?? Did it rain hard enough to stop the fire?

Thinking of you and praying for a hard rain and no wind. :(
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

at first it looked like just a short rain but it's still raining here. I hope things are getting better. Mr.OC had to abandon a job he was doing on a rooftop where smoke was very thick.
That's exactly right! Us Jersey girls can be a thorn in your side if you treat us badly!

These fires are hitting a little too close to home. We sent some our fire trucks from Monmouth County to help. I hope it's raining like crazy...

This morning the air is cleaner, kids went back to school ( THANK GOD !!), roads are open again. From what I hear from my fireman friends we have the blaze over 75% contained and may get it completely by lunchtime. Rains helped a TON ! I am going to take a ride around the back of my develpment today to get depressed and see all the burnt trees etc.. The pines here in NJ are like no other ecosystem anywhere else in the world. They may look like just scrubby trees, but what lies beneath is so much more. We lost over 14,000 acres , it's sad. I've seen critters in my yard that I've never seen before looking for new homes.
Keep the seniors that lost their homes in your prayers....it's hard to rebuild in your 80's.

The news this morning says that it is 70% contained. I was driving home yesterday on the GS Parkway about 40 miles north of where they closed it down and it was really foggy, then realizing the smell I was smelling was smoke and the fog was smoke haze. Not good. I hope the military is going to pay for the destroyed homes and property which they caused. Phins up to anyone who was impacted by this.

I'm so glad the rain helped. I was thinking of you when I heard the good news this morning.
And for all Jersey Girls and those who love them, read Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum detective series. She's a great Jersey girl who does bounty hunting while still making sure she looks good.
And don't fret the burned trees. An occasional fire is good for a forest and the animals in the long run. That's why some state parks let them burn, and most others practice controlled burning. If you had had some smaller fires over the years it wouldn't have gotten like this. By burning up the underbrush it lets certain species grow better. It also opens up more low lying growth for deers and other species to eat. In five years things will be better then before the fire. Plus it makes it safer now that all that undergrowth is gone.
And I love Bon Jovi too but I'm more of a Bruce girl. When I was in hs and college (the first time hehe) my friends and I would ride around Asbury park like naive kids, hoping for a Bruce sighting. We'd go to the Stone Pony when South Side Johnny was there hoping for the same thing. No luck. Last night there was a woman on Jeopardy who said she went to SP and was SSJ, Bruce showed up and Johny pulled her up on the stage and she danced with Bruce ala Courtney Cox. How cool is that.
