The most valuable shipwreck ever has yielded over 500,000 coins with an estimated value of $1,000 per coin. And who says treasure hunting doesn't pay the bills?

I read this this morning and am very happy for Greg Stemm and Odyssey. They started out their company with the great goals of combining profit and archaeology and after initial success they met a number of obstacles. I get the feeling they were at the final breaking point. Now they hit the mother load. They are being so tightlipped about it all. I"m sure they have a very good idea exactly what ship this is and what time period it is from. They had all that research done before they went looking.

Cool stuff.
There is also a Treasure Hunters show coming out - looks sort of like Survivor on a boat.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

Odyssey filmed it I'm sure. They most likely will be doing a special for one of the science/nature type channels. Odyssey is one of those salvage companies with a good reputation for archaeological research. They also are aware that there are many ways to make money off of your treasure. I can't wait.
