Sleep Study?

Post by nutmeg »

Anyone ever done one of these? I'm scheduled for one next week.

I imagine I will find it difficult to sleep at he hospital knowing someone is watching me and hooked up to all that stuff. :o

Anybody have any experience with this? What was it like???

Massachusetts General is having one of those up here and I thought about doing it. I would like to know what people think of this question too.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

I think so. They have three night visits and five visits to see what's wrong with a person.

I thought I'd find it difficult to sleep too but I didn't. I was in a room kinda like a hotel room. I could watch tv until I was tired enough to sleep. Since I didn't really see the cameras I think that made it easy. The wires took a little getting used to.

I've had 2 sleep studies, with similar experiences. It's awkward to have all the wires hooked to you, but other than that, it's like a little hotel room. I didn't sleep much at all - I don't know how they got any info about my sleep apnea, but apparently they did. It's not horrible, and doesn't really feel like someone's watching you, but it's certainly not a restful night either.

It was worth it, to get diagnosed and get treatment for my sleep apnea.

Good luck!

So is everyone with sleep apnea using a CPAP machine? Or have you checked out alternative treatments?

I've been through 2 of them. The studies themselves sukk, but I couldn't be happier with the results. I never realized how tired I was until I actually started getting some good sleep. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

Exactly! you wont get a lot of sleep during the studies, too many wires and probes. Not painful, just annoying. But within 2-3 nights of my cpap I could not believe how great I felt. It is definately worth it.
