I had that song too. My mom heard they were talking of banning it from the radio and she threw mine out
My dad had a sense of humor too. He'd listen to Son of Schmilson with me. My mom would have gone thru the roof.

I'm trying to remember what my first album was.....haven't a clue.
but I loved Herman's Hermits and had the greatest hits album...and I bought a 45 of theirs called "This Door Swings Both Ways" and played it to death. Now I'm trying to remember what the song was about
I had every Monkee anything that came out.
One of my favorite memories of listening to albums was listening to "The Button Down Mind of Bob Newhart" with my family.
The driving instructor, Kruschev's landing rehearsal, the invention of baseball.....
"How fast were you going when Mr Adams jumped from the car?"

Me too, and I still have them all. Including the soundtrack album from their movie "HEAD."

I also have everything by Herman's Hermits. I
think THAT song is about him wanting to know where he stands in a potential relationship with a prospective girlfriend. He's saying "The door swings both ways-I can go in or out, just let me know which."

Hey, I found the lyrics to this door
Herman's Hermits
THIS DOOR SWINGS BOTH WAYS
(Thomas/Levitt)
Everyones life is bittersweet
It's a door that opens wide
And no man can call himself complete
Till he's seen it from both sides
This door swings both ways
It's marked 'In' and 'Out'
Some days you'll want to cry
And some days you will shout
This door swings both ways
It goes back and forth
In comes a southern breeze
Or a cold wind from the north
This door swings both ways
Lets in joy and pain
In comes the morning sun
And then the evening rain
This door swings both ways
Lets in dark and light
Every day you make the choice
To let in wrong or right
When shadows fall
You must prepare yourself for sunshine
For everything there is an end
And so my friend you must be brave
This door swings both ways
Which one will it be
Will we live in happiness
Or dwell in misery
This door swings both ways
Lets in earth and sky
Make the most of livin'
If you're not prepared to die
Make the most of livin'
If you're not prepared to die

Saw Peter Noone at Riverboat Days in Clinton about three years ago. My wife and children were embarassed by how excited I was to see him.

For those of you who want to digitize your vinyl, there's now a turntable with a USB input:
The first USB turntable that lets you convert your old vinyl collection directly to CD or MP3, the Ion Audio iTTUSB is a must for people who don't want to deal with clumsy adapters or mismatched software when transferring formats. Requiring no special drivers, the turntable comes with Audacity, a recording application that works with both PCs and Macs, as well a trial version of Bias Soundsoap 2 to clean and restore vinyl recordings. As an alternative, the turntable also works with any other software that supports USB audio input sound cards. Once connected, the turntable transfers both 33-1/3 rpm albums and 45 rpm singles to digital formats in mere minutes.

My brother and I came home from school one day to see that our mother had bought us Thriller.
Not sure if it was the actual first but it definitely was one of the first records we got.
We had tons of 45s from Culture Club to Men At Work, Duran Duran, Thomas Dolby, Eddy Grant, etc.

BTW-his name on his birth certiificate is PETER BLAIR DENIS BERNARD NOONE.
He had a few uncles who his parents didn't want to omit.
Hell, I don't blame him for going with "HERMAN."

First 45 - Beatles - "And I love her"
First LP - Beatles - "Meet the Beatles & Introducing the Beatles"
First 8track - Beach Boys
First Cassette - Springsteen- "Greetings from Asbury Park" so I could listen to it in the car, also owned the LP and now the CD
First CD - Buffett - "Songs you know by Heart" again so I could listen to it in the car, owned many many many LP's & cassettes. Now that the CD changer is on the fritz, I'm glad I still have all those cassettes!
