I think by time they started rating movies I was old enough to go to R rated ones by myself. But to give you an idea how things have changed, Midnight Cowboy (which has been on TV) was rated X when it was first released.

The Graduate.

I'm not sure it was R-rated, but my mother would have DIED if she had known I was seeing it instead of THE GRADUATE. :wench:

Looking back at when rating started, I'm with LIPH.

I do remember sneaking into a drive-movie to see Bonnie and Clyde. We prolly just sneaked in for fun tho!

because for us.. It was a milestone.. the R thing was big
in my family if my Mom had known MASH was R.
and I did not walk out of the Movie.. I would have been
grounded for probably a month..
When Saturday Night Fever was out. I was 17 and
under strict orders NOT to see it..
Which I did .. :D
