It has looked like rain all weekend - so we haven't flown our flag as yet. Could have flown it today - but Don's off at a friends and I just can't get it down by myself if it did start raining.
When Don retires and we get our "retirement home" in a few years we plan on having a flagpole that we can fly the flag from daily.

I had a flag flown over Iraq for my parents... it sits folded in a shadow box hanging up on the wall in the family room.flyboy55 wrote:The only flag we have in the house sits folded in a cedar chest. It came to us because of a family member's service a long time ago. We don't fly it and we never will.

we've got a flag that was flown off Don's old navy ship before it was decommissioned and then flown at the capital.flyboy55 wrote:The only flag we have in the house sits folded in a cedar chest. It came to us because of a family member's service a long time ago. We don't fly it and we never will.
Don recently found out a ship to be commissioned in appx 2010 that will bear the same name - he wants to go to the commissioning ceremony and possibly get this flag flown on that ship. We never fly it, it is housed in a display case with the letters certifying it's flight framed next to it.

Sounds very tasteful - your parents must be proud. Mine was presented after a funeral - lots of family baggage. I haven't been a flag flyer for a very long time.pojo wrote:I had a flag flown over Iraq for my parents... it sits folded in a shadow box hanging up on the wall in the family room.flyboy55 wrote:The only flag we have in the house sits folded in a cedar chest. However, I do manage two shots of Irish whiskey when I get the urge to commemorate and circumstances allow it.

My mom had to look up on how to properly fold Old Glory... I folded it for her (in the time it took for her to look up folding!) I had about 4 flags flown over Iraq... my mom/stepdad, my grandparents, my employer (at the time) and Clovis Grove Elementary in my hometown (the students communicated to me while I was over there)flyboy55 wrote:Sounds very tasteful - your parents must be proud.
