Dentists

I just went to the dentist today. Some old fillings I've had since I was a kid needed replacing. I recently had braces removed after wearing them for 18 months; I couldn't wait to get to the dentist for the first good post-metal cleaning!

I love the feeling of having my teeth cleaned and looked after properly. I was chatting with my dentist about that today and she seems to think that people either love or despise going to the dentist.

What about you? Is it a pleasure or do you have dental horror stories?

I am dental-phobic.....I put it off as long as I can...and then when I go I always think it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.....but then by the time it rolls around again......I'm all freaked out....

I hyperventilate for days ahead of time...

and need tranquilizers by the time it rolls around...

Going tomorrow for a 6-month checkup.

I don't know if I "love" it, but I don't mind, only work I ever seem to need is fixing up old fillings so that's nice. Had braces in my 30s. :D

I don't care for it but its my own doing. I'm crappy about flossing though I brush regulalry. Needless to say the hygenist tears me apart when she has to floss.

More and more adults are getting braces. I'll be 41 next Wednesday and I'm so glad I had it done. Not only are the problems corrected, but they are easier to clean and keep healthy. ;)

I thought I included "other" as an option... maybe a mod could add that. :)

I had braces for almost two years, and in-between the "jaw-alignment" surgery that had my mouth wired shut for 6 weeks! Mumbling and eating everything thru a straw!

Been trying to catch up ever since.

horror stories from when I was a kid...and I'd used the same dentist in OK for 25 years...grown accoustomed to nitrous...

they don't seem to have many dentists in this part of Georgia that use nitrous...so I've found a really nice dentist that understands my previous horror..

had a tooth filled the other day, she's really good. I like her and my anxiety of having work done without the nitrous is history.

I don't look forward to going to the dentist (because it means I have to spend money ) but it doesn't bother me. I go for a checkup every 6 months and haven't had a cavity in about 15 years, maybe longer.

Like Chip, I'm going for my 6-month checkup tomorrow.

I like the drive out to the country (and the free parking) and seeing our dentist with whom our friendship goes back over 40 years, pre-professional time. The money doesn't worry me: my health insurance covers 80%.
But it may not be fun: I have some pain and bleeding in the gums, which means I'm getting old and I've been "bad".... not flossing as much as I should. If I have to have--yet another--root canal, I probably won't like that.
And my dentist used to give me nitrous  , but seems to have stopped.

Still I mostly stopped getting cavities when I was in my 30s; nowadays, it's just replacing the ancient fillings... like excavating Egyptian tombs, I think.

One dentist I am looking forward to seeing is Longboardn Al, but that appointment is not until July, at Tinley Park!

Just got back from a root canal :( :x :(

However, I do like the feeling AFTER going to the dentist and having my teeth cleaned...the root canal is a WHOLE different issue, though!!!!

I don't mind going to the dentist and look forward to having my teeth cleaned.

I go to the dentist tomorrow. I haven't had a cavity for years and years--just those I got before I turned 25, but have had some old fillings replaced. I do have some periodontal problems, so I go every 4 months.

Retirement has no dental benefits, so I take a little hit each time. I get my money's worth though, since she has to clean 32 teeth!! [smilie=grinz.gif] [smilie=coolup.gif]

I can't say I LOVE it but I certainly don't mind. At this point it's been just replacing all my old fillings with non-mercury ones and now they've all been replaced so it's just cleaning every 6 months which I DO love.

I used to be a dental assistant so maybe that's why I'm so relaxed in the environment. Plus my dentist's chairs are really comfy I almost fall asleep!

Plus my dentist is a cool guy. 8)

:o :o Me too... 'cept I was wired for 8 weeks!! :)

Just had my six-month check up earlier this afternoon. The most refreshing words after the assistant cleans them and the doctor checks them are, "Everything looks good, see you in six months!" :D

I go regularly, and don't hate/fear it; but certainly wouldn't say I love going to the dentist

I'm going for my 6 month check up soon. I've had a couple of crowns...and one very forgettable root canal, but mostly it's been OK

I don't dread going, but I don't look forward to it either. Don't tell my dentist...she lives across the street from me

Where is SGH??

She will understand what I'm saying....

I really really really hate it.....

I had a dentist when I was 8....Dr White...and when I cried out once, he stood behind me and put his hands on my face...closed off my nostrils with one hand...and put the other over my mouth...and I couldn't breathe...while he was yelling at me to never cry again....

When he got back in front of me , I kicked him and yelled for my grandmother.....She came back, and after giving him "what for"...took me out of there, and found a new dentist...(Dr Karesh, and I loved him!)

I have hated going to the dentist ever since then.....

Nitrous is not an option....nor is pre-medicating...

They scare the bejesus out of me....

oh well.....

I don't have any fear of the Dentist, and go regularly for cleanings.
I guess prevention is a good thing.

My husband has had constant dental problems and delays going, which of course, only makes them worse. :-?
