That's one hell of an OOPPPPPS.

How was the Buffet? Was it reasonably priced and did it have a diverse selection to choose from?

it was their Thursday special, the Jimmy buffet, although most customers prefer the Monday Yoko buffet with the delicious sushi.

Maybe they didn't have legal clearance, so they're trying to avoid any court battles

i was commenting to my friend how jimmy might get a little upset if he walked into this bar and saw that, and an employee was walking by and asked me what jimmy would be upset about, i said his name is spelled wrong. he went and told the manager immediately.
it was their grand opening
i gotta get back there to see if they corrected it.

and yes, i did think of adding a T before i left the bar!

My guess is that Jimmy's legal team has already written a letter to this place

JMHO, but aside from the misspelling, isn't it a properly credited quote from a JB song?

Is that illegal?

The big inspiration for the whole Margaritaville empire was seeing his name misspelled on shirts he didn't authorize. It was in the early to mid 80's, which wasn't a high point for him, career wise. He saw shops in Key West selling "Jimmy Buffet" shirts and realized there was a market for this sort of merchandise, so he quickly copywrighted everything remotely related to his name and eventually opened the first Margaritaville.

The whole margaritaville merchandise express started when he was in Cincy some 20 odd years ago. Story I read (in Playboy, no less. :o :o And yes, i do read it for the articles. But don't get me wrong. I also look at it for the pictures [smilie=blush.gif] [smilie=blush.gif] [smilie=blush.gif] But I digress....) is that he was poking through an Army/Navy store and the guy behind the counter recognized him and thanked him. Jimmy said "for what?" the guy responded that every time he knew Buffett was coming to town for a concert he got a whole bunch of hawaiian shirts to sell, knowing that he would sell every one of them. Jimmy figured he should probably get in on the action.

It was about that same time frame (20 some odd years ago) that the restaurant in Connecticut named "Margaritaville's" (no connection) had to change their name.

I think that story took place in Pittsburgh. The term Parrothead was coined by Timothy Schmit while in Cincinnati.
